LogicScan: An LLM-driven Framework for Detecting Business Logic Vulnerabilities in Smart Contracts

Business logic vulnerabilities have become one of the most damaging yet least understood classes of smart contract vulnerabilities. Unlike traditional bugs such as reentrancy or arithmetic errors, these vulnerabilities arise from missing or incorrectly enforced business invariants and are tightly coupled with protocol semantics. Existing static analysis techniques struggle to capture such high-level logic, while recent large language model based approaches often suffer from unstable outputs and low accuracy due to hallucination and limited verification. In this paper, we propose LogicScan, an automated contrastive auditing framework for detecting business logic vulnerabilities in smart contracts. The key insight behind LogicScan is that mature, widely deployed on-chain protocols implicitly encode well-tested and consensus-driven business invariants. LogicScan systematically mines these invariants from large-scale on-chain contracts and reuses them as reference constraints to audit target contracts. To achieve this, LogicScan introduces a Business Specification Language (BSL) to normalize diverse implementation patterns into structured, verifiable logic representations. It further combines noise-aware logic aggregation with contrastive auditing to identify missing or weakly enforced invariants while mitigating LLM-induced false positives. We evaluate LogicScan on three real-world datasets, including DeFiHacks, Web3Bugs, and a set of top-200 audited contracts. The results show that LogicScan achieves an F1 score of 85.2%, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art tools while maintaining a low false-positive rate on production-grade contracts. Additional experiments demonstrate that LogicScan maintains consistent performance across different LLMs and is cost-effective, and that its false-positive suppression mechanisms substantially improve robustness.

Temperament and the Roots of Interpretation

Adopting the perspective of recent findings in psychology, this article examines the complex ways in which the personalities of individual actors and directors affect their interpretations of dramatic material. The article asks: How is it that in the crucible of the rehearsal room certain interpretative decisions “feel right” and others do not? What are the forces that shape these pre-reflexive processes? When taking interpretative decisions that can shape a performance or even an entire production, where does the balance lie between deliberate reflection, enculturated habits, and non-conscious processes? Are the latter rooted in our personalities? In search for answers, the article outlines the considerable effect genetic and epigenetic factors (“temperaments”) as well as inherited “tribal attitudes” have on the formation of personality. The article concludes by asking whether we need to look again at actor training in the light of advances in the psychology of individual differences and suggests a way for the practices of our training studios to renew themselves so as to reflect the findings of the new psychology.

Dukawalla: Voice Interfaces for Small Businesses in Africa

Though many tools exist they are not designed to fit into the ways of working of SMB workers who are mobile first, have limited time to learn new workflows, and for whom social and business are tightly coupled. To address this, the Dukawalla prototype was created. This intelligent assistant bridges the gap between raw business data, and actionable insights by leveraging voice interaction and the power of generative AI. Dukawalla provides an intuitive way for business owners to interact with their data, aiding in informed decision making. This paper examines Dukawalla's deployment across SMBs in Nairobi, focusing on their experiences using this voice based assistant to streamline data collection and provide business insights

Provenance of Adaptation in Scientific and Business Workflows -- Literature Review

In the world of science new technology have opened up the possibility to rely on advanced computational methods and models to conduct and produce scientific research. An important aspect of scientific and business workflows is provenance - which refers to the information describing the production, history or lineage of an end product, which can also be data, digitalized processes and other not tangible artifacts. While there are already systems, tools and standards to capture provenance of data and workflows the provenance of adaptations/changes in workflows has not been addressed yet. In this paper we carry out a literature review to establish the state of the art on this topic and present our methodology and findings. Our findings confirm that provenance of adaptation has not been addressed adequately in the fields of business and scientific workflows. The two fields also have different motivation for recording the lineage of data or processes. While scientific workflows are interested in reproducibility and visualization, business workflows solutions are indirectly connected to compliance, exception handling and analysis. The adaptive nature of workflows in both fields is not reflected in the research on process provenance yet, as our results show. The use of standard provenance standards is also not wide spread.

Объектом изучения в предложенной статье является современная хореография, активно переосмысливающая взаимодействие музыки и движения, включая концепцию тишины как художественного элемента. Методы исследования включают культурно-исторический и сравнительный анализ. Актуальность и новаторство статьи заключаются в анализе постановок, в которых тишина становится самостоятельным выразительным средством. В исследовании проанализированы постановки, в которых тишина является художественным образом, создает новые формы выражения, влияет на технику (хореографические постановки Карлоса Карвахаля, Начо Дуато, Иржи Килиана, Уильяма Форсайта, Мартина Шекса и др.). В постмодернистских постановках тишина выступает в роли символа, структурного элемента танца, средства драматургического воздействия. Акцентируется внимание на воздействие восточных традиций и перформативных практик, рассматриваются образцы синтеза восточных и западных традиций в хореографии, обосновывающих концепцию статьи: тишина в танце — это не просто отсутствие звука, а мощный инструмент художественного выражения.

The impact of radiative levitation on mode excitation of main-sequence B-type pulsators

Numerical computations of stellar oscillations for models representative of B-type stars predict fewer modes to be excited than observations reveal from modern space-based photometric data. One shortcoming of state-of-the-art evolution models of B-type stars that may cause a lack of excited modes is the absence of microscopic diffusion in most such models. We investigate whether the inclusion of microscopic diffusion in stellar models of B-type stars, notably radiative levitation experienced by isotopes, leads to extra mode driving by the opacity mechanism compared to the case of models that do not include microscopic diffusion. We consider the case of slowly to moderately rotating stars and use non-rotating equilibrium models, while we account for (uniform) rotation in the computations of the pulsation frequencies. We calculate 1D stellar models with and without microscopic diffusion and examine the effect of radiative levitation on mode excitation, for both low-radial order pressure and gravity modes and for high-radial order gravity modes. We find systematically more modes to be excited for the stellar models including microscopic diffusion compared to those without it, in agreement with observational findings of pulsating B-type dwarfs. Furthermore, the models with microscopic diffusion predict that excited modes occur earlier on in the evolution compared to modes without it. In order to maintain realistic surface abundances during the main sequence, we include macroscopic envelope mixing by internal gravity waves. While radiative levitation has so far largely been neglected in stellar evolution computations of B-type stars for computational convenience, it impacts mode excitation predictions for stellar models of such stars. We conclude that the process of radiative levitation is able to reduce the discrepancy between predicted and observed excited pulsation modes in B-type stars.

Identifying Quantum Mechanical Statistics in Italian Corpora

We present a theoretical and empirical investigation of the statistical behaviour of the words in a text produced by human language. To this aim, we analyse the word distribution of various texts of Italian language selected from a specific literary corpus. We firstly generalise a theoretical framework elaborated by ourselves to identify 'quantum mechanical statistics' in large-size texts. Then, we show that, in all analysed texts, words distribute according to 'Bose--Einstein statistics' and show significant deviations from 'Maxwell--Boltzmann statistics'. Next, we introduce an effect of 'word randomization' which instead indicates that the difference between the two statistical models is not as pronounced as in the original cases. These results confirm the empirical patterns obtained in texts of English language and strongly indicate that identical words tend to 'clump together' as a consequence of their meaning, which can be explained as an effect of 'quantum entanglement' produced through a phenomenon of 'contextual updating'. More, word randomization can be seen as the linguistic-conceptual equivalent of an increase of temperature which destroys 'coherence' and makes classical statistics prevail over quantum statistics. Some insights into the origin of quantum statistics in physics are finally provided.

This article analyzes three plays published by Gennaro Sacco, a dell’arte actor-playwright who visited the Polish royal court in 1699. Sacco became famous for his role as Coviello. He initially performed in Naples, then in the northern part of the Apennine Peninsula, and, like many Italian actors, he offered his talent to various European rulers (in Celle, Warsaw, Madrid). We hardly know anything about his stay at the Warsaw court of king Augustus II; there are no sources that would reveal the repertoire or the names of troupe members. What is extant, however, is the dramatic text of Commedia smascherata, ovvero i comici esaminati, published in Warsaw. The analysis of this play against the background of its two predecessors, published by Sacco in Italy more than a decade earlier, contributes to our knowledge of role structure, distribution, and variation in dell’arte theater. It also helps iden­tify the impact of local conditions on the work of travelling Italian dell’arte artists.

TabIQA: Table Questions Answering on Business Document Images

Table answering questions from business documents has many challenges that require understanding tabular structures, cross-document referencing, and additional numeric computations beyond simple search queries. This paper introduces a novel pipeline, named TabIQA, to answer questions about business document images. TabIQA combines state-of-the-art deep learning techniques 1) to extract table content and structural information from images and 2) to answer various questions related to numerical data, text-based information, and complex queries from structured tables. The evaluation results on VQAonBD 2023 dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of TabIQA in achieving promising performance in answering table-related questions. Entanglement as a Method to Reduce Uncertainty

In physics, entanglement 'reduces' the entropy of an entity, because the (von Neumann) entropy of, e.g., a composite bipartite entity in a pure entangled state is systematically lower than the entropy of the component sub-entities. We show here that this 'genuinely non-classical reduction of entropy as a result of composition' also holds whenever two concepts combine in human cognition and, more generally, it is valid in human culture. We exploit these results and make a 'new hypothesis' on the nature of entanglement, namely, the production of entanglement in the preparation of a composite entity can be seen as a 'dynamical process of collaboration between its sub-entities to reduce uncertainty', because the composite entity is in a pure state while its sub-entities are in a non-pure, or density, state, as a result of the preparation. We identify within the nature of this entanglement a mechanism of contextual updating and illustrate the mechanism in the example we analyze. Our hypothesis naturally explains the 'non-classical nature' of some quantum logical connectives, as due to Bell-type correlations.

A Survey of Data Marketplaces and Their Business Models

"Data" is becoming an indispensable production factor, just like land, infrastructure, labor or capital. As part of this, a myriad of applications in different sectors require huge amounts of information to feed models and algorithms responsible for critical roles in production chains and business processes. Tasks ranging from automating certain functions to facilitating decision-making in data-driven organizations increasingly benefit from acquiring data inputs from third parties. Responding to this demand, new entities and novel business models have appeared with the aim of matching such data requirements with the right providers and facilitating the exchange of information. In this paper, we present the results and conclusions of a comprehensive survey on the state of the art of entities trading data on the internet, as well as novel data marketplace designs from the research community.

A Pipeline for Business Intelligence and Data-Driven Root Cause Analysis on Categorical Data

Business intelligence (BI) is any knowledge derived from existing data that may be strategically applied within a business. Data mining is a technique or method for extracting BI from data using statistical data modeling. Finding relationships or correlations between the various data items that have been collected can be used to boost business performance or at the very least better comprehend what is going on. Root cause analysis (RCA) is discovering the root causes of problems or events to identify appropriate solutions. RCA can show why an event occurred and this can help in avoiding occurrences of an issue in the future. This paper proposes a new clustering + association rule mining pipeline for getting business insights from data. The results of this pipeline are in the form of association rules having consequents, antecedents, and various metrics to evaluate these rules. The results of this pipeline can help in anchoring important business decisions and can also be used by data scientists for updating existing models or while developing new ones. The occurrence of any event is explained by its antecedents in the generated rules. Hence this output can also help in data-driven root cause analysis.

Performance, Politics, and Historiography in and out of Time: American Responses to the Paris Commune

American echoes of the Paris Commune have been muffled by the nation’s obsession with freedom at the expense of solidarity, but performative responses to social upheaval, including drama, parades, and protests, have tested the boundaries of public space and multiple temporalities from 1871 to 2021. This article notes traces of the Commune in the writings and performances of nineteenth century American anarchists but analyzes this legacy primarily in the 2012 performance of Brecht’s The Days of the Commune (1949) at New York sites claimed by the Occupy Movement in 2011. It also uses the argument of Brecht’s contemporary Ernst Bloch for cultural action grounded in an understanding of historical disappointment to anticipates setbacks while maintaining hope for future revolution. The paper delineates five theses on the politics of time: 1) the dramatic appeal of the clean break hides the tension between gradual evolution and a sudden event that ruptures the long span of history (Badiou); 2) historiography, the narrative that turns data into evidence, challenges the illusion of objectivity and thus a simple split between timely intervention and untimely interference with the established order (Nietzsche); 3) ana-chronology, the logic of untimeliness reads contemporaneity as companionship between events and agents across different times and places (Barthes); 4) recollecting history requires acts of forgetting, which shatter the constraints of the past to meet demands of the present (Renan, Nietzsche); 5) the politics of time entails the politics of place and thus requires the analysis of multiple temporalitieslayered on one site as well as political acts and performance in distinct places.

Becoming Entangled: Queer Attachments with Hemiparasites

What is that queer plant that drapes itself chaotically over the top of trees and bushes? You know the one along the road on the way into town? Ah yes! You mean the one with no leaves, that looks like tangled yarn caught up in the branches?  Yes, it looks like its floating airborne on top of the canopy, smothering and embracing at the same time. Well, that's the one with the common name of snotty gobble or Dodder-Laurel!!! Dodder may look chaotic but that only demands on how you view it. I can’t stop thinking about it, Let’s find out what it’s doing. ‘Learning to be affected’ says Bruno Latour is to be 'moved, put into motion by other entities, humans or non-humans’(2004). And this is what happened to Down the Road Projects when we became intrigued with local plant parasites where we live in central Victoria, Australia.  This paper explores how we became ensnared by planty agencies. By charting our multispecies and human interactions in the course of developing the art project, Becoming Differently (2018), we trace how parasites came to be an important theme of the art, how they infiltrated the art works, how they changed our understanding of parasites, how they enticed us into the bush and developed our style of collaboration. We ‘queery’ what it means to be ‘drawn towards’ particular plants, we wonder who or what is ‘drawing’, and how these particular plants inflected our art and writing. We consider how we were moved towards different ways of figuring identity and belonging, and how we grappled with practices and modes of engagement with complex issues of identity, belonging and nature in a settler-colonial situation, and how this led to us to become differently entangled in the place where we live.

What's behind tight deadlines? Business causes of technical debt

What are the business causes behind tight deadlines? What drives the prioritization of features that pushes quality matters to the back burner? We conducted a survey with 71 experienced practitioners and did a thematic analysis of the open-ended answers to the question: ``Could you give examples of how business may contribute to technical debt?'' Business-related causes were organized into two categories: pure-business and business/IT gap, and they were related to `tight deadlines' and `features over quality', the most frequently cited management reasons for technical debt. We contribute a cause-effect model which relates the various business causes of tight deadlines and the behavior of prioritizing features over quality aspects.

Non-cognitive abilities of exceptional software engineers: a Delphi study

Important building blocks of software engineering concepts are without a doubt technical. During the last decade, research and practical interest for non-technicalities has grown, revealing the building blocks to be various skills and abilities beside pure technical knowledge. Multiple attempts to categorise these blocks have been made, but so far little international studies have been performed that identify skills by asking experts from both the industrial and academic world: which abilities are needed for a developer to excel in the software engineering industry? To answer this question, we performed a Delphi study, inviting 36 experts from 11 different countries world-wide, affiliated with 21 internationally renowned institutions. This study presents the 55 identified and ranked skills as classified in four major areas: communicative skills (empathy, actively listening, etc.), collaborative skills (sharing responsibility, learning from each other, etc.), problem solving skills (verifying assumptions, solution-oriented thinking, etc.), and personal skills (curiosity, being open to ideas, etc.), of which a comparison has been made between opinions of technical experts, business experts, and academics. We hope this work inspires educators and practitioners to adjust their training programs, mitigating the gap between the industry and the academic world.

Contextualising and Aligning Security Metrics and Business Objectives: a GQM-based Methodology

Pre-defined security metrics suffer from the problem of contextualisation, i.e. a lack of adaptability to particular organisational contexts - domain, technical infrastructure, stakeholders, business process, etc. Adapting metrics to an organisational context is essential (1) for the metrics to align with business requirements (2) for decision makers to maintain relevant security goals based on measurements from the field. In this paper we propose SYMBIOSIS, a methodology that defines a goal elicitation and refinement process mapping business objectives to security measurement goals via the use of systematic templates that capture relevant context elements (business goals, purpose, stakeholders, system scope). The novel contribution of SYMBIOSIS is the well-defined process, which enforces that (1) metrics align with business objectives via a top-down derivation that refines top-level business objectives to a manageable granularity (2) the impact of metrics on business objectives is explicitly traced via a bottom-up feedback mechanism, allowing an incremental approach where feedback from metrics influences business goals, and vice-versa. In this paper, we discuss the findings from applying SYMBIOSIS to three case studies of known security incidents. Our analysis shows how the aforementioned pitfalls of security metrics development processes affected the outcome of these high-profile security incidents and how SYMBIOSIS addresses such issues.
