A practical NbS framework for ecological landscape design: The Pınarbaşı example

Gizem Dinç

Recreation and leisure activities have become vital components for enhancing social welfare and overall quality of life in contemporary urban and rural environments. Within this context, natural areas play a crucial role in strengthening social interaction, maintaining ecological resilience, and supporting public health. The growing interest in nature-based recreation highlights the need for design strategies that integrate ecological preservation with user-oriented functionality. This study develops a landscape design model explicitly grounded in Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), positioning NbS as the core conceptual and methodological framework of the project. Conducted in the Pınarbaşı Public Garden located in the Şarkikaraağaç district of Isparta, Türkiye, the research demonstrates how NbS principles can be operationalized in ecological landscape design to address environmental, social, and functional needs simultaneously. The design process was structured around a comprehensive analysis of topography, vegetation, hydrology, land use, and social dynamics. The proposed design integrates ecological services such as shading, water management, carbon sequestration, and soil protection with multifunctional recreational facilities including picnic areas, bicycle paths, wooden bridges, and local product stands. Sustainable materials, minimal intervention strategies, and universal accessibility standards were prioritized throughout the design process. The findings demonstrate that NbS-based landscape design enhances ecological continuity, supports local identity, and strengthens the interaction between humans and nature. This case study offers a replicable model for developing resilient recreational landscapes that contribute to environmental sustainability and community well-being.

Effects of Different Types of Exercise on Kidney Diseases

Hamid Arazi, Majid Mohabbat, Payam Saidie et al.

The effects of exercise on kidney function have been studied for more than three decades. One of the most common health issues among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a lack of physical activity, which leads to a low exercise capacity in these patients. The majority of maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients do not exercise at all. At each stage of dialysis, patients lose 10–12 g of their amino acids through blood sampling. Dialysis also leads to increased cortisol and circadian rhythm sleep disorders in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Studies have also reported higher C-reactive protein levels in HD patients, which causes arterial stiffness. Exercise has a variety of health benefits in these patients, including improved blood pressure control, better sleep, higher physical function, and reduced anxiety and depression. On the other hand, it should be noted that intense exercise has the potential to progress KD, especially when conducted in hot weather with dehydration. This review aimed to investigate the effects of different types of exercise on kidney disease and provide exercise guidelines. In conclusion, moderate-intensity and long-term exercise (for at least a 6-month period), with consideration of the principles of exercise (individualization, intensity, time, etc.), can be used as an adjunctive treatment strategy in patients undergoing dialysis or kidney transplantation.

Kristina Motiejūnaitė, Dalia Mickevičienė, Albertas Skurvydas et al.

The aim of the study was to establish the differences in men and women’s performance of speed-accuracy movements with their left (LH) and right (RH) hands. The research participants were 24 healthy right-handed subjects: 12 males (aged 20.8 ± 1.1 years) and 12 females (aged 21.4 ± 1.0 years). The research was carried out in the Laboratory of Human Motor Control at the Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education (LAPE) applying the analyzer of dynamic parameters of human leg and arm movement (DPA-1; Patent No. 5251; 2005 08 25), which is used for the qualitative estimation of the dynamic parameters of one arm and leg target movement, two arms and legs coordinated and independent target movements, when the resistance power and target are coded with different programmable parameters. The task was performed with the right and then with the left hand (50 repetitions with each hand). The subjects had two tasks: a) to react as quickly as possible (simple task); b) to react as quickly as possible and to hit the target on a computer screen quickly and accurately (complicated task). We registered the maximal and mean movement speed, reaction time, movement trajectory and intraindividual variability of the right and the left hands. Conclusions. There was no significant difference in accuracy between female and male subjects, thought female subjects performed speed-accuracy task more slowly than men. Both males and females performed the speed-accuracy task with their right hand faster and more accurately than with their left hand. Performing movements with different hands the indices of reaction time did not differ significantly. Both males and females performed movements with their right and left hands with the same intraindividual variability. Keywords: movement control, reaction time, speed-accuracy task, right and left hand, gender.

EFFECTIVE KNOWLEDGE TESTS AND FEEDBACK IN FUNCTION OF IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ STUDY

Duško Bjelica, Dragan Krivokapić

One of the most important issues in the project ”National frame of qualifications and quality providing in education”, run by the EU Delegation in Montenegro, is improvement of students’ study through effective knowledge tests and feedbacks. Knowledge tests do not only represent a problem of knowledge evaluation, but they significantly determine instructional design of the teaching process. Process of organisation and structuring of an exam, besides feasibility and applicability aspects, also has educative aspects. The knowledge tests should motivate a student to improve their own education as well as to motivate them to further studying. An exam should not be considered as individual method of knowledge evaluation, but as a procedure that will be pervaded with the educative programme. In that sense, availability of good-quality feedback enables the students to self-correct, and the chosen methods of examination have to provide relevant results

M. J. S. Silva, A. S. Rabelo, R. G. S. Vale et al.

The objective of the present study was to verify the correlation level among the max, the relative fat and the profile lipídico of 51 Cadets (Age = 23.63 3.58 years; Weight = 74.13 ± 10.46 kg; Height = 1.76 ± 0.06 m; IMC = 23.99 2.76 kg/m2), of the masculine gender, of the Academy of the Military police of the State of Rio de Janeiro, of the year of 2007. The subjects were active and participants of the military physical training (TFM) accomplished five times a week, with duration of 60 minutes for session. They were appraised: the max for ergoespirometria (I record of progressive effort, with constant inclination of 3% and initial speed of 4,0km/h), the relative fat (% G - I record of three cutaneous folds) and the profile lipídico, through the method Enzymatic Calorimétrico in the variables: total cholesterol (CT), triglicérides (TG), lipoproteína of density high-cholesterol (HDL-C) and lipoproteína of density low-cholesterol (LDL-C). The test of correlation of Spearman presented correlation significant between max and TG (r = -0,289; p = 0,04),  max and HDL-C (r = 0,277; p = 0,049),% G and TG (r = 0,296; p = 0,035),% G and HDL-C (r = 0,338; p = 0,015). Like this, these discoveries point a discreet relationship between the profile lipídico and the maximum consumption of oxygen corroborating the need to consider other factors as the feeding and the intensity of the exercises in the investigation of this relationship. Key Words: training,  VO2 max, relative fat, lipidic profile.
