Software-heavy Asset Administration Shells: Classification and Use Cases

Carsten Ellwein, David Dietrich, Jessica Roth et al.

The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is an emerging technology for the implementation of digital twins in the field of manufacturing. Software is becoming increasingly important, not only in general but specifically in relation to manufacturing, especially with regard to digital manufacturing and a shift towards the usage of artificial intelligence. This increases the need not only to model software, but also to integrate services directly into the AAS. The existing literature contains individual solutions to implement such software-heavy AAS. However, there is no systematic analysis of software architectures that integrate software services directly into the AAS. This paper aims to fill this research gap and differentiate architectures based on software quality criteria as well as typical manufacturing use cases. This work may be considered as an interpretation guideline for software-heavy AAS, both in academia and for practitioners.

Understanding College Athlete Mental Health: Insights from Division I Athletic Department Personnel

Tarkington Newman, Danielle Renner, Melissa Bessaha et al.

Throughout contemporary society, mental health and well-being are viewed as critical components of holistic, biopsychosocial development. This perspective has gained momentum within the context of sport, as athletes utilize their social platform to advocate for mental health resources and supports. However, the diverse and dynamic needs of many athletes remain unmet. Within the current study, six focus groups—which included 27 partners of collegiate athletics—were conducted and included athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, as well as athletic administrators and academic counselors. Using a reflexive thematic analysis, findings indicated that college athlete mental health is understood as holistic well-being and the ability to thrive in daily life. Participants discussed learning about mental health through academic education and training, as well as lived experiences (e.g., dual pandemic). Finally, participants believed more athletes are talking about mental health and that athletes feel most comfortable discussing mental health with their teammates and friends, the team’s sport staff (e.g., athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, assistant coaches), and mental health professionals. These conversations often occurred in the locker room and on team bus rides. However, there was hesitancy discussing mental health with head coaches and because of gender differences.

Towards an Inclusive Digital Society: Digital Accessibility Framework for Visually Impaired Citizens in Swiss Public Administration

Sabina Werren, Hermann Grieder, Christopher Scherb

As we progress toward Society 5.0's vision of a human-centered digital society, ensuring digital accessibility becomes increasingly critical, particularly for citizens with visual impairments and other disabilities. This paper examines the implementation challenges of accessible digital public services within Swiss public administration. Through Design Science Research, we investigate the gap between accessibility legislation and practical implementation, analyzing how current standards translate into real-world usability. Our research reveals significant barriers including resource constraints, fragmented policy enforcement, and limited technical expertise. To address these challenges, we present the Inclusive Public Administration Framework, which integrates Web Content Accessibility Guidelines with the HERMES project management methodology. This framework provides a structured approach to embedding accessibility considerations throughout digital service development. Our findings contribute to the discourse on digital inclusion in Society 5.0 by providing actionable strategies for implementing accessible public services. As we move towards a more integrated human-machine society, ensuring digital accessibility for visually impaired citizens is crucial for building an equitable and inclusive digital future.

Mobilising strategic alliances with community organisations to address work-related mental injury: a qualitative study guided by collaboration theory

Corina Crisan, Pieter Van Dijk, Jennifer Oxley et al.

Background A critical policy issue in Australia and worldwide is the escalating rates of work-related mental injury that have been linked to the lack of help-seeking behaviours of at-risk workers. Strategic alliances between community organisations, statutory bodies, and mental health service providers could expand the efficacy and reach of mental health literacy and peer support initiatives that can encourage help-seeking, however, there is limited evidence to support the development of such approaches. This study used a qualitative design based on collaboration theory to explore the factors influencing community organisation leaders’ decisions to provide such initiatives through collaboration with relevant third parties. Methods Repositories of submissions into mental health reviews and publicly available registers in Australia were used to identify twenty-two participant organisations (n = 22), which were categorised according to the International Classification of Non-Profit Organisations (Culture & Recreation, Social Services, and Development & Housing). Eleven of these organisations demonstrated an interest in collaborating with third parties and extending efforts to deliver work-related mental health initiatives through contributions to mental health reviews. Leaders were interviewed to understand differences in perspectives on potential collaborations. Results Organisations that did not make submissions were reluctant to engage in such efforts due to limitations in expertise/capacity, and perceived mission misalignment. Third-party support from statutory bodies and mental health service providers addressing these perceived limitations may improve their confidence, and willingness to engage. Regardless of their category, all considered the benefit of such collaboration included improving the acceptability, approachability, availability, and efficacy of work-related mental health initiatives. Equity was seen as supporting decision-making/leadership, while power imbalance was a barrier. Third-party contributions that could facilitate collaboration included expert support/credibility, administration, formal structures, supportive policy, and joining networks, however, red tape was a challenge. Shared values, vision, practice, and networking were identified as supporting positive communication and interpersonal relations. Conclusion The study establishes that, adequately supported and resourced, community organisations are willing to align strategically with statutory bodies and mental health service providers to use their unique position in the community to deliver work-related mental health literacy and peer support programmes for at-risk workers to improve help-seeking behaviours. This is the first study that used a qualitative approach guided by collaboration theory to explore the motivations influencing Community Organisation (CO) leaders’ decisions to work with statutory bodies and mental health service providers and deliver programmes aimed to improve workers’ access to mental health literacy resources and peer support. Understanding the beliefs that differentiate COs that provided submissions into mental health reviews from those that did not is imperative in the design of effective strategies to facilitate future engagement. The use of a theory-based decision-making model (the Strategic Alliances Framework) was critical in determining the scale, and types of initiatives that different categories of COs may be able to provide, and potential levels of engagement with relevant third parties. COs must be adequately guided, resourced, and supported by statutory bodies/regulators and organisations with mental health expertise if they are to meet the contemporary needs of their communities and achieve impact beyond work-related mental health awareness raising.

Tecnología social, turismo de base local y turismo de base comunitaria. Breve debate buscando mejoras en las actividades del turismo comunitario

Thais Felipe Felipe Rosa, Maria Josefa Pastor-Alfonso, Luzia Sigoli Fernandes-Costa

Delivering the European Skills Agenda: the importance of social skills for a sustainable tourism and hospitality industry

Sheena Carlisle , Stanislav Ivanov , Pilar Espeso-Molinero

The research presents the results of a quantitative survey of senior managers’ evaluation of proficiency of employees’ social skills completed in 2019 within the framework of the Next Tourism Generation Alliance, a European Commission funded project. The current and future levels of proficiency, social skills gaps and training are assessed. The sample includes 1404 respondents from organisations across eight countries in Europe in five tourism and hospitality sectors (hospitality, food & beverage, tour-operators, visitor attractions and DMOs). Results show significant country-based differences and variations according to the type of organisation, operational sector and organisation size. The required future levels of the social skills are strongly related to their current levels. Two clusters are identified based on the management perceptions of employees’ social skills gaps. Respondents in the first cluster (N=871) see only small gaps between the current and required future proficiency levels of social skills in their organisations while respondents in the second cluster (N=533) perceive much larger gaps. The findings indicate a need to develop holistic social skill training and education which supports quality customer experiences and sustainable tourism criteria.

A SEM-NCA approach towards the impact of participative budgeting on budgetary slack and managerial performance: The mediating role of leadership style and leader-member exchange

Khalid Hasan Al Jasimee, Francisco Javier Blanco-Encomienda

This study re-examines the impact of participative budgeting on managerial performance and budgetary slack, addressing gaps in current research. A revised conceptual model is developed, considering the conditioning roles of leadership style and leader-member exchange. The sample includes 408 employees with managerial experience in manufacturing companies. Hypotheses are tested using a combination of PLS-SEM and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA). The results demonstrate that participative budgeting negatively affects budgetary slack and directly influences managerial performance, leadership style, and leader-member exchange. Moreover, leadership style and leader-member exchange moderate these relationships. The integration of NCA in management accounting research provides valuable insights for decision-makers, allowing for more effective measures. This study contributes by encouraging a complementary PLS-SEM and NCA approach to examine conditional effects. It also enhances understanding of budgetary control by highlighting the importance of leadership in influencing participative budgeting outcomes.

Public Open Space Vandalisation Trends and Transmutation Roots in South-Eastern Nigeria

Henry C Umunakwe, Samuel I. Ogbaa, Elizabeth O Diogu et al.

This study addressed factors influencing public open space vandalisation trends and transmutation roots in South-eastern Nigeria. To achieve the aim of the study, the research considered: public open space vandalisation and reasons for vandalising public recreational open spaces. The research adopted field investigations method via case study approach which involved descriptive survey research design through field observation, questionnaire administration and oral interviews. Quantitative and qualitative data research methods were employed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of the study demonstrated that urban indifference and insensitivity contributed marginally to public recreational open space vandalisation and conversion in the sampled urban areas. Besides, vandalisation contributed immensely to increased loss of interest in public recreation as a result leads to disregard of public recreational open spaces. This prompted a high rate of conversion of public recreational spaces in South-Eastern Nigeria as the management abandoned some of the recreational spaces, with dissuading costs like obesity, boredom and insomnia. To resolve these abnormally, there is the need to engage in spatial services to both monitor and predict future occurrences in the management of public recreational open spaces in South-eastern Nigeria. Besides, the private sector should be encouraged to invest in open space operations in the sampled states. Key Word: Vandalisation, Public Open Space Management, Recreation, Open Space Conversion, Conversion Root

Leveraging Google's Publisher-specific IDs to Detect Website Administration

Emmanouil Papadogiannakis, Panagiotis Papadopoulos, Evangelos P. Markatos et al.

Digital advertising is the most popular way for content monetization on the Internet. Publishers spawn new websites, and older ones change hands with the sole purpose of monetizing user traffic. In this ever-evolving ecosystem, it is challenging to effectively answer questions such as: Which entities monetize what websites? What categories of websites does an average entity typically monetize on and how diverse are these websites? How has this website administration ecosystem changed across time? In this paper, we propose a novel, graph-based methodology to detect administration of websites on the Web, by exploiting the ad-related publisher-specific IDs. We apply our methodology across the top 1 million websites and study the characteristics of the created graphs of website administration. Our findings show that approximately 90% of the websites are associated each with a single publisher, and that small publishers tend to manage less popular websites. We perform a historical analysis of up to 8 million websites, and find a new, constantly rising number of (intermediary) publishers that control and monetize traffic from hundreds of websites, seeking a share of the ad-market pie. We also observe that over time, websites tend to move from big to smaller administrators.

Roles and Problems of Stroke Caregivers: A Qualitative Study in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Paryono Muhrodji, Hendrawan Dian Agung Wicaksono, S. Satiti et al.

Background: Caregivers play a central role in post-stroke patients' care. However, the role of and problems managed by caregivers have not been widely studied, particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the roles and problems of caregivers in post- stroke patients’ care. Method: This was a qualitative study. Seven caregivers of post-stroke patients from the homecare clinic of Dr Sardjito General Hospital were purposely selected during January 2017 to June 2018. Focus group discussions were conducted to explore the roles and problems of caregiving. Results: Themes related to caregivers’ roles were: connecting patients with medical personnel and other family members, maintaining patients’ health conditions by fulfilling basic needs and assisting rehabilitation, as well as maintaining patients’ psychological conditions by encouraging conversation, telling jokes, or recreation. On the other hand, themes related to caregivers’ problems were: lack of knowledge caused by education inadequacy, underappreciated and unconcerned family, suboptimal service including limited physiotherapy and pharmacy resource, unthorough administration, lack of communication, physical limitations, and burnout, as well as uncooperative patients. Conclusions: Caregivers play essential roles as communicators and help to maintain patient's health conditions. Common problems are related to a lack of knowledge about strokes and a lack of attention from family. Further research to study the effects of these findings on the quality of life of both patient and their caregiver, as well as how to handle the caregiver issues should be investigated.

Propulsive forces of economic growth in Slovakia: the inference from the input-output table data

M. Mariš

The main objective of the paper was an investigation of the structural relations between the industries affecting the macroeconomic performance of the Slovak economy. The scope of the paper focuses on evaluation of the productive efficiency, labor intensity and employment productivity, considering multiple backward and forward linkages among the industries. The highest production efficiency recorded Electricity & Water supply and waste management (D+E), Construction (F), and Administrative support services (N), whereas Arts and Recreation (R), Public administration (O) and Heath care (Q) recorded the lowest one. The results have also shown a moderately negative link between the productivity of some particular industry and labor intensity, which suggests that highly productive sectors need fewer jobs. As a lowest labor intensive industries became Electricity & Water supply and waste management (D+E), Financial and Insurance services (K) and Professional, scientific and technical activities (M). Moreover, considering the ratio between employment multiplier and the coefficient of the labor intensity has shown, that Real estate (L) and Energy & Water supply sector (D+E) is able to sustain most jobs per one unit of the labor intensity, whereas the Education (P) least. For sustaining competitiveness, Slovakia should prioritize high productivity industries or try to foster productivity in lagging ones.

Employee performance is important because it is the foundation and direction of every organization. In this paper, we attempt to investigate the effect of self-efficacy on organizational commitment and employee performance, then the effect of organizational commitment on employee performance. The objectivity of the study refers to 100 informant units obtained through a survey of employees in the Tourism and Culture Office of East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The sampling approach uses a saturated sample method with Structural Equation MedellingPartial Least Square (SEM-PLS). These findings indicate that self-efficacy has a significant effect on organizational commitment and employee performance. Similar to the previous results, organizational commitment has a significant effect on employee performance. With these findings, it can contribute to the role of a leader who must have optimal leadership characteristics, so that self-efficacy, organizational commitment, and employee performance continue to be optimal as expected.

A Retrospective Look at the Evolution of Romanian Tourism, at the Border Between the Millennia (1989-2019)

Puiu Nistoreanu, Mihail – Ovidiu Tănase

During the last 30 years we have witnessed major changes in tourism worldwide due to a lot of factors. Changes in political situation in Eastern Europe open a lot of countries to international tourism. Changes in air transport made more accessible some overseas or island destination. The increase of general welfare boosted the demand for tourism and the stability of the socio-political environment sustains a steady upward trend in international tourism arrivals. Looking back at Romania’s tourism we see a period with major structural changes and some major turning points. A brief evolution of the sector is presented with an emphasis on the most important years. The most important regulations are presented in this paper together with their impact on Romania’s tourism sector. To show a more accurate image we include main statistical information about this topic demonstrating that tourism is an important part of Romanian economy.

On the control of the Hegselmann-Krause model with leadership and time delay

Alessandro Paolucci, Cristina Pignotti

We analyze Hegselmann-Krause opinion formation models with leadership in presence of time delay effects. In particular, we consider a model with pointwise time variable time delay and a model with a distributed delay. In both cases we show that, when the delays satisfy suitable smallness conditions, then the leader can control the system, leading the group to any prefixed state. Some numerical tests illustrate our analytical results.

Leadership and Institutional Reforms

Matata Ponyo Mapon, Jean-Paul K. Tsasa

Large-scale institutional changes require strong commitment and involvement of all stakeholders. We use the standard framework of cooperative game theory developed by Ichiishi (1983, pp. 78-149) to: (i) establish analytically the difference between policy maker and political leader; (ii) formally study interactions between a policy maker and his followers; (iii) examine the role of leadership in the implementation of structural reforms. We show that a policy maker can be both partisan and non-partisan, while a political leader can only be non-partisan. Following this distinction, we derive the probability of success of an institutional change, as well as the nature of the gain that such a change would generate on the beneficiary population. Based on the restrictions of this simple mathematical model and using some evidence from the Congolese experience between 2012 and 2016, we show that institutional changes can indeed benefit the majority of the population, when policy makers are truly partisan.
