In this monograph, we study in detail a special class of $GL_2$-real analytic Eisenstein series.

Some congruence relations satisfied by the theta series associated with the Leech lattice are given.

We determine the growth of the dimension of the slope subspaces of the cohomology of arithmetic subgroups in reductive algebraic groups as a function of the slope.

This thesis deals with the capitulation problem in class field theory and gives various new insights into the subject.

In this paper, we prove a divisibility result for the lacunary $q$-binomial sum $$ \sum_{k\equiv r\pmod{c}}(-1)^kq^{\binom{k}{2}}\qbinom{n}{k}{q}\qbinom{(k-r)/c}{l}{q^{c}}. $$

We prove that the Coleman-Mazur eigencurve is proper (over weight space) at integral weights in the center of weight space.

We prove that if p is a prime with a primitive root 2 then S_p(2^p)=p and give a sufficient condition for an equality of kind S_p(2^p)=+or-p.

We give a more strong heuristic justification of our conjecture on the excess of the odious primes.

This paper explores some aspects of managing research in healthcare practice today. The work is based largely on government guidelines in England in which a research governance framework has been developed and is now being used to monitor many aspects of research activity in the NHS. Following a brief overview of the evolution of the research governance framework, some aspects of the strategy are outlined and considered. The challenge to nurses is to ensure that research work is developed in accordance with these guidelines, which lay specific expectations on people and organisations working in health-care research

The value of appraisal for nurses was the subject of this naturalistic inquiry. The case study was conducted in one health district, at the time that the NHS was in the middle of the drives towards efficiency and effectiveness that accompanied the introduction of the government's White Paper, Working for Patients1 . The findings of the research are presented as eight reflections that are offered for consideration to anyone involved in the appraisal process. These reflections emphasise the value and need for appraisal for nurses, and offer a number of key pointers to ensuring success in the enterprise.
