Enhancing AI Depression Detection Using Transfer Learning

Na Wang, Raja Kamil, Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Haddad et al.

Depression is a serious mental health disorder that poses significant challenges to individuals’ emotional well-being, daily functioning, and overall quality of life. While artificial intelligence methods offer promising solutions in diagnosing, their development typically requires large datasets, which are difficult due to privacy concerns and the complex nature of clinical diagnosis. To address these challenges, this study leverages transfer learning to improve depression detection. Specifically, the method employs the bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) pre-trained model on large-scale language data, and fine-tunes it on the Extended Distress Analysis Interview Corpus to adapt the model for depression detection. By using the BERT Tokenizer, interview transcripts were tokenized to retain critical linguistic context. These tokens were then processed by the pre-trained bert-base-uncased model to extract robust language features. The features were then passed through a 1-dimensional convolutional neural network (1DCNN) for further analysis, enabling the detection of depression-related patterns. Finally, the refined features were classified via dense layers. To investigate the effectiveness of this method, a total of 11 models-six conventional machine learning models and five neural networks-were tested using three tokenization methods for comparison. Among them, the BERT Tokenizer + 1DCNN model achieved the best performance, with an accuracy of 89.3%, F1 score of 89.4%, and AUC of 95.0%. Notably, transfer learning improved accuracy by 7.7%, highlighting its effectiveness in training neural networks on small datasets. These results demonstrate that the proposed approach not only addresses the issue of limited training data but also significantly enhances the accuracy and reliability of AI-aided depression detection. The method can be applied in computer-aided systems for improving clinical depression diagnostics and other healthcare applications where data scarcity is a barrier.

A Incidência da Dengue Explicada por Variáveis Climáticas na Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro

L. Layter Xavier

Weighted estimates for Hardy–Littlewood maximal functions on harmonic NA groups

Pritam Ganguly, Tapendu Rana, Jayanta Sarkar

Abstract Our aim in this article is to study the weighted boundedness of the centered Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator on harmonic NA groups. Closely following the approach of Antezana and Ombrosi in the setting of real hyperbolic spaces, we prove the weighted $$L^p$$ L p -boundedness, for $$1<p<\infty $$ 1 < p < ∞ , of the maximal operator. Furthermore, as an endpoint case, we establish a variant of the Fefferman–Stein inequality, from which a vector-valued maximal inequality has been obtained. We also provide examples of weights to substantiate various aspects of our results. In particular, we show that certain spherical functions on harmonic NA groups serve as examples of $$A_p$$ A p weights.

NEW GENERALISATIONS OF VAN HAMME’S (G.2) SUPERCONGRUENCE

NA TANG

AbstractSwisher [‘On the supercongruence conjectures of van Hamme’, Res. Math. Sci.2 (2015), Article no. 18] and He [‘Supercongruences on truncated hypergeometric series’, Results Math.72 (2017), 303–317] independently proved that Van Hamme’s (G.2) supercongruence holds modulo $p^4$ for any prime $p\equiv 1\pmod {4}$ . Swisher also obtained an extension of Van Hamme’s (G.2) supercongruence for $p\equiv 3 \pmod 4$ and $p>3$ . In this note, we give new one-parameter generalisations of Van Hamme’s (G.2) supercongruence modulo $p^3$ for any odd prime p. Our proof uses the method of ‘creative microscoping’ introduced by Guo and Zudilin [‘A q-microscope for supercongruences’, Adv. Math.346 (2019), 329–358].

Extension of completely bounded <i>A-B</i> bimodule maps

Paul S. Muhly, Qiyuan Na

AbstractIn this paper, we present an “order” characterization of completely bounded bimodule maps for bimodules over unital operator algebras. We use this result to prove a bimodule generalization of Wittstock's generalized Hahn-Banach theorem. Our proofs simplify and unify some of Wittstock's arguments.

Multiplicity of solutions to non-local problems of Kirchhoff type involving Hardy potential

Yun-Ho Kim, Hyeon Yeol Na

<p>The aim of this paper is to establish the existence of a sequence of infinitely many small energy solutions to nonlocal problems of Kirchhoff type involving Hardy potential. To this end, we used the Dual Fountain Theorem as a key tool. In particular, we describe this multiplicity result on a class of the Kirchhoff coefficient and the nonlinear term which differ from previous related works. To the best of our belief, the present paper is the first attempt to obtain the multiplicity result for nonlocal problems of Kirchhoff type involving Hardy potential by utilizing the Dual Fountain Theorem.</p>

Asynchronously switching control of discrete-time switched systems with a $ \Phi $-dependent integrated dwell time approach

Qiang Yu, Na Xue

<p>In this paper, the asynchronous control problem is investigated and a multiple convex Lyapunov functions (MCLF) approach is introduced for a class of discrete-time switched linear systems under the $ \Phi $-dependent integrated dwell time ($ \Phi $DIDT) switching strategy. For the problem of asynchronous switching, this paper considers that Lyapunov functions may jump when the subsystem switches or the controller changes. Thus, the constructed MCLF is dependent on both the asynchronous interval and the synchronous interval, and the synchronous interval is divided into the convex interval and non-convex interval parts. Some sufficient conditions of stability with Linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms are obtained, and the asynchronous controller is designed to guarantee the globally uniform exponential stability of the system under study. In addition, the proposed method can degenerate to the existing methods to deal with the asynchronous control problem. Finally, a numerical example illustrates the superiority of the proposed method.</p>
