Censored response variables--where outcomes are only partially observed due to known bounds--arise in numerous scientific domains and present serious challenges for regression analysis. The Tobit model, a classical solution for handling left-censoring, has been widely used in economics and beyond. However, with the increasing prevalence of high-dimensional data, where the number of covariates exceeds the sample size, traditional Tobit methods become inadequate. While frequentist approaches for high-dimensional Tobit regression have recently been developed, notably through Lasso-based estimators, the Bayesian literature remains sparse and lacks theoretical guarantees. In this work, we propose a novel Bayesian framework for high-dimensional Tobit regression that addresses both censoring and sparsity. Our method leverages the Horseshoe prior to induce shrinkage and employs a data augmentation strategy to facilitate efficient posterior computation via Gibbs sampling. We establish posterior consistency and derive concentration rates under sparsity, providing the first theoretical results for Bayesian Tobit models in high dimensions. Numerical experiments show that our approach outperforms favorably with the recent Lasso-Tobit method. Our method is implemented in the R package tobitbayes, which can be found on Github.

There is a longstanding connection between “curiosity”, “desire”, and “sexuality”. This connection can be found in texts as diverse as works of scripture like the Hebrew Bible and the Quran as well as in contemporary works of critical theory. Miguel de Cervantes explored such a connection more than four centuries ago in <i>El curioso impertinente</i>, an exemplary novella embedded in the 1605 part one of <i>Don Quixote</i>. Through a comparative reading of Cervantes’s <i>El curioso impertinent</i>, Pedro Almodóvar’s 1997 film <i>Carne trémula</i> (itself a free adaptation of Ruth Rendell’s 1986 novel <i>Live Flesh</i>), and Luis Buñuel’s 1955 film <i>Ensayo de un crimen</i>, this essay analyzes the intersection of curiosity and desire—inflected through the lenses of both Girardian and Lacanian theory—in order to explore the fundamental role not just of curiosity in early modern Spain, but also in the representation of modern (and postmodern) sexuality.

Consider the discrete Laplacian $Δ_d$ defined on the set of integers $\mathbb Z$ by \[ Δ_d f(n) = -f(n+1) + 2f(n) -f(n-1), \ \ \ \ n\in \mathbb Z, \] where $f$ is a function defined on $\mathbb Z$. In this paper, we define Hardy spaces, Besov spaces and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces associated with $Δ_d$ and then show that these function spaces coincide with the classical function spaces defined on $\mathbb Z$. As applications, we prove the boundedness of the spectral multipliers and the Riesz transforms associated with $Δ_d$ on these function spaces.

In this paper we analyze a class of nonconvex optimization problem from the viewpoint of abstract convexity. Using the respective generalizations of the subgradient we propose an abstract notion proximal operator and derive a number of algorithms, namely an abstract proximal point method, an abstract forward-backward method and an abstract projected subgradient method. Global convergence results for all algorithms are discussed and numerical examples are given

The article deals with the analysis of biblical themes in the Coptic apocryphon the detailed title of which can be translated as “The Mysteries of John, the Apostle and Holy Virgin, That (the mysteries) Were Taught to Him in Heaven”. The text is fully preserved in Sahidic in the late copy of the beginning of the 11th century and originates from the monastery of Saint Mercurius in Hagr Edfu located in the south of Egypt. There is also a small fragment in Bohairic from the monastery of Saint Macarius in Wadi al-Natrun. The very fact of existence of this copy which comes from the monastery in the north and was compiled in another dialect indicates that the apocryphon must have been a widespread and significant piece of work with its important role in preserving the written tradition in the Coptic language. The codex with the complete version of the text currently kept at the British Library (Or. 7026) was published by Sir E. A. W. Budge in the anthology of works in Sahidic from the collection of the British Museum at that time: Budge E. A. W. Coptic Apocrypha in the Dialect of Upper Egypt. London, 1913. As the elaborate title at the beginning of the text states, the story is about the ascent of John the Apostle to Heaven where he gets to know different mysteries by asking the Cherub that accompanies him. This narrative is peculiar in a way, since it has accumulated traditions and perceptions of different cultures seamlessly combined with each other within one textual space. The main objective is to analyze the episodes which refer to the Old Testament, the majority of them to the Book of Genesis. Being compared with respective passages from the Holy Scripture, they represent distinctive features that, in turn, give an opportunity to judge how certain biblical themes were reflected in the apocryphal literature of Christian Egypt. Moreover, on the basis of the analysis conducted along with the additional material and sources taken into consideration one may better comprehend how the author tried to interpret the canonical text sometimes including it into realities of Egyptian culture and referring to different legends.

We study conjugate and Lagrange dualities for composite optimization problems within the framework of abstract convexity. We provide conditions for zero duality gap in conjugate duality. For Lagrange duality, intersection property is applied to obtain zero duality gap. Connection between Lagrange dual and conjugate dual is also established. Examples related to convex and weakly convex functions are given.

In his lecture notes on mean curvature flow, Ilmanen conjectured the existence of noncompact self-shrinkers with arbitrary genus. Here, we employ min-max techniques to give a rigorous existence proof for these surfaces. Conjecturally, the self-shrinkers that we obtain have precisely one (asymptotically conical) end. We confirm this for large genus via a precise analysis of the limiting object of sequences of such self-shrinkers for which the genus tends to infinity. Finally, we provide numerical evidence for a further family of noncompact self-shrinkers with odd genus and two asymptotically conical ends.

This article aims to provide the reader with a short introduction on, and overview of the movement called Eternal Functional Subordination (EFS) that was introduced in 1977 by a Presbyterian preacher, George Knight. This is mostly an evangelical movement and is generally concerned with the relationship between God the Father and God the Son, which is regarded as an eternal authoritative position of the Father, and an eternal subordination of the Son – against the mainline Protestant churches. EFS claims that the roots of this view go back to the Bible and the tradition of the early church, referring to the Creeds and the Councils, including the Church Fathers. Are they correct with this statement? A critical discussion of EFS follows the introduction and concise literature overview.

We analyze a fully discrete scheme based on the discontinuous (in time) Galerkin approach, which is combined with conforming finite element subspaces in space, for the distributed optimal control problem of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes-Voigt equations with a quadratic objective functional and box control constraints. The space-time error estimates of order $O(\sqrtτ+h)$, where $τ$ and $h$ are respectively the time and space discretization parameters, are proved for the difference between the locally optimal controls and their discrete approximations.

The importance of the spiritual dimension in the lives of people living in conditions of poverty and social exclusion and the often-critical role of faith-based organisations has gained increasing relevance in development research and practice. A growing line of research focuses on how to integrate the faith dimension into the evaluation of social programmes and on quantifying the effects of faith. The objective of this article is to propose a framework for integrating a spiritual dimension into the design and practice of impact evaluation by using the concept of integral human development (IHD). Integral human development emerged within the Catholic social tradition, but is not specific to it. It is a perspective on human development that integrates the material and spiritual, recognises the interdependence between humans and their environment or territory and demands change at both the individual and collective levels. This framework is then applied to the design of an impact evaluation of a faith-based programme that accompanies people with drug and alcohol addictions in Argentina. The article highlights the following characteristics of an integral impact evaluation: the interaction between multiple well-being dimensions; the use of knowledge and methods of analysis from multiple disciplines; the importance of understanding the diverse pathways to improvements in well-being; the assessment of the spiritual dimension through changes in one’s relationships with oneself, others and the environment; and the importance of assessing personal change within the context of social and community transformation.

<strong>Abstract</strong> <br />The discussion of "God" and "being," in Scholastic philosophy are tied. In metaphysics of Suarez, “being” has different meanings and divisions. And the study of the status of "being" in the theology of Suarez requires an examination of the meanings of being as a subject of metaphysics and the divisions of being in theology. Our question is being that is a subject of metaphysics of Suarez, what has relation to being of his Theology? Is there a relation between being in metaphysics (first volume of Disputations) with God (volume II)? <br />For Suarez the adequate object of metaphysics is being insofar as it is real being;" it deals with not only God and Aristotelian "Separate Substances") which are of themselves immaterial but also with everything else inasmuch as it falls under concepts like being, unity, truth, and goodness, but are common to these and to other things as well. <br />Suarez in second disputation in part of forth, expresses of meaning of being and distinct being in “participle of being” and “nominal being”. <br />What is mean of being? Being, is sometimes taken as a participle of the word ‘am’ and as such it signifies the act of being as exercised and is the same as existing actually. It signifies existence, for if someone says that Adam is, it signifies that he exists. <br />But noun ‘being’ signifies the essence of the thing and is divided into ten genera. Nominal being signifies real essence. Essence (essentia) is being (esse) and it is the source of the acts and attributes that are attributed to something. Real essence is what is defined and the first belongs to the mind, because the first thing belongs to that object. <br />The discussion of the existence of God in the second volume of the twenty- eight twenty-nine disputations is presented in both philosophical and theological terms. In the philosophical discussion, there are six divisions of Being that are: 1. Division of Being into into Infinite and Finite, 2. Division of Being into Being by Itself and Being from Another. 3. The Division of Being into Necessary and Contingent, 4. The Division of Being into Being by Essence and Being by Participation, 5. A Division of Being into Uncreated and Created, 6. A Division of Being into Pure Act and Potential Being. <br />If we want to find derivation between two meanings in metaphysics (participle and nominal). The derivation is the real being. In fact, the "being of participle" does not express everything that is real, hence the "nominal existence" also needs real being. To the collection of the being of participle that is real, and the being of a nominal term that expresses the potential being, together with the real being and the subject of metaphysics. And what is also the derivation of the divisions in the second part of the article is also "real being”; Because in these divisions, one side is God, and the other is the creatures’ contingent. In fact, you can say to Suarez The subject of metaphysics is "real being," but its use in metaphysics, including God. <br />The "real being" has been studied in relation to God with three approaches (metaphysical, theological, mystical). According to which the four ratios of being with God are given, two of which are metaphysical, one is mystical and the other is theological.1. In the first metaphysical approach, God is "self-being" or (ipsum esse) against the concrete being.2. In the mystical approach, God is " above being (supra ens) " in relation to the use of being in particular to the creatures, which are the concrete constituents. 3. In the second metaphysical approach, God is a special being, in the sense of the most complete and infallible being, in relation to the being of a general and abstract being that is common to all creatures and all beings; 4. In the theological sense of the being of the Bible and Exodus, which corresponds to the third most perfect and perfect being. <br />Therefore, in the first metaphysical approach of God, "self-being" lies in the contrary of a particular being. And in another metaphysical approach, God is the "most specific being" that stands in the contrary of an abstract being. In the mystical approach, Following the Platonists, God is "Over being. “in the theological approach God is the "most specific being" that is the same of God in Exodus (3: 14) “I am who am”. The first metaphysical approach relates to a mystical approach and the second metaphysical approach with the theological approach is one. In fact, Suarez is a Christian philosopher who both philosophy and theology that are not ignored.

The interpretation of Ps 139 remains a deeply contested matter. In particular, the psalm’s genre and integrity continue to be debated, with the key issues related to the place of vv. 19-22. Do these verses constitute the key to interpretation, or are they a later interpolation? If they are an interpolation, can we trace the psalm’s development back through the material in vv. 1-18 (possibly with some minor expansions), so that vv. 23-24 are seen as a unit displaced from the introduction? Conversely, if vv. 19-22 are original, how do we account for marked change of tone present so that instead of the seemingly bucolic reflections found in vv. 1-18 the text then shifts to an imprecation against the wicked? This paper proposes a unified reading of the psalm which uses ambiguity as a central technique for developing different experiences for those who pray this psalm within the subgroup of the prayers of the accused. It will be argued that ambiguity is an intentional compositional strategy within the psalm, with the effect of the ambiguity different for those who read the poem from the perspective of innocence as opposed to the experience of those who read from the perspective of guilt. https://doi.org/10.17159/2312-3621/2019/v32n2a13

Is God a necessary being and spring of goodness? Many people become adherents of the Holy Bible and/or the Holy Quran through their diverse faiths, actuations and/or religions. The Holy Bible and the Holy Quran were carefully studied in this work. In the course of the study, six responses for the Epicurean paradox were found. Textual analysis was used as a methodology to describe and interpret the content, structure, and functions of the messages contained in various texts The paper aimed to fully answer and give definite responses to what may be a challenging “Epicurean paradox”. A believers life rests on God's purpose and starts with the mission of connecting the virtue ethics of faith, hope and agape as tools in achieving completeness as a human being. This entirety of a believers life is a completer consciousness of human excellence in the Kingdom of God and the inspiring spirit behind God's acts of redemption. The goodness of God is not only an attribute of God but a initial truth every believer ought to embrace.

Consider the parabolic equation with measure data \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} &u_t-{\rm div} \mathbf{a}(D u,x,t)=μ&\text{in}& \quad Ω_T, &u=0 \quad &\text{on}& \quad \partial_pΩ_T, \end{aligned}\right. \end{equation*} where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $Ω_T=Ω\times (0,T)$, $\partial_pΩ_T=(\partialΩ\times (0,T))\cup (Ω\times\{0\})$, and $μ$ is a signed Borel measure with finite total mass. Assume that the nonlinearity ${\bf a}$ satisfies a small BMO-seminorm condition, and $Ω$ is a Reifenberg flat domain. This paper proves a global Marcinkiewicz estimate for the SOLA (Solution Obtained as Limits of Approximation) to the parabolic equation.

Homological algebra techniques can be found in almost all modern areas of mathematics. Many interesting problems in mathematics can be formulated, computed, or can find their equivalence in terms of Ext-groups. For instance, important (co)homology theories, such as the Mac Lane cohomology for rings or the Hochschild and cyclic homology of commutative algebras can be defined as Ext-groups in suitable functor categories; homotopical invariants can also gain information from homological data with the help of the unstable Adams spectral sequence, whose input takes the form of Ext-groups in the category of unstable modules over the Steenrod algebra. Therefore, the constructions of explicit injective (projective) resolutions in an abelian category is of great importance. In this article, we introduce a new method, called Pseudo-hyperresolution, to study such constructions. This method originates in the category of unstable modules, and aims at building explicit resolutions for the reduced singular cohomology of spheres. In particular, for all integers $n\geq 0$, we can describe a large range of the minimal injective resolution of the sphere $S^{n}$ based on the Bockstein operation of the Steenrod algebra. Moreover, many classical constructions in algebraic topology, such as the algebraic EHP sequence or the Lambda algebra can be recovered using the Pseudo-hyperresolution method. A particular connection between spheres and the infinite complex projective space is also established. Despite its origin, Pseudo-hyperresolution generalizes to all abelian categories. In particular, many explicit resolutions of classical strict polynomial functors can be reunified in view of Pseudo-hyperresolution. As a consequence, we recover the global dimension of the category of homogeneous strict polynomial functors of finite degree as well as the Mac Lane cohomology of finite fields.
