Point cloud processing is very challenging, as the diverse shapes formed by irregular points are often indistinguishable. A thorough grasp of the elusive shape requires sufficiently contextual semantic information, yet few works devote to this. Here we propose DensePoint, a general architecture to learn densely contextual representation for point cloud processing. Technically, it extends regular grid CNN to irregular point configuration by generalizing a convolution operator, which holds the permutation invariance of points, and achieves efficient inductive learning of local patterns. Architecturally, it finds inspiration from dense connection mode, to repeatedly aggregate multi-level and multi-scale semantics in a deep hierarchy. As a result, densely contextual information along with rich semantics, can be acquired by DensePoint in an organic manner, making it highly effective. Extensive experiments on challenging benchmarks across four tasks, as well as thorough model analysis, verify DensePoint achieves the state of the arts.

CNNs with strong learning abilities are widely chosen to resolve super-resolution problem. However, CNNs depend on deeper network architectures to improve performance of image super-resolution, which may increase computational cost in general. In this paper, we present an enhanced super-resolution group CNN (ESRGCNN) with a shallow architecture by fully fusing deep and wide channel features to extract more accurate low-frequency information in terms of correlations of different channels in single image super-resolution (SISR). Also, a signal enhancement operation in the ESRGCNN is useful to inherit more long-distance contextual information for resolving long-term dependency. An adaptive up-sampling operation is gathered into a CNN to obtain an image super-resolution model with low-resolution images of different sizes. Extensive experiments report that our ESRGCNN surpasses the state-of-the-arts in terms of SISR performance, complexity, execution speed, image quality evaluation and visual effect in SISR.

: Modern AI applications have caused broad societal implications across key public domains. While previous research primarily focuses on individual user perspectives regarding AI systems, this study expands our understanding to encompass general public perceptions. Through a survey ( N = 1506), we examined public trust across various tasks within education, healthcare, and creative arts domains. The results show that participants vary in their trust across domains. Notably, AI systems’ abilities were evaluated higher than their benevolence across all domains. Demographic traits had less influence on trust in AI abilities and benevolence compared to technology-related factors. Specifically, participants with greater technological competence, AI familiarity, and knowledge viewed AI as more capable in all domains. These participants also perceived greater systems’ benevolence in healthcare and creative arts but not in education. We discuss the importance of considering public trust and its determinants in AI adoption.

The burgeoning capacity of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate artworks has ignited substantial interdisciplinary interest. However, the absence of a shared conceptual framework has hitherto impeded effective communication and collaboration among cognitive science, computer science, and art theory. This study addresses this lacuna through a comprehensive literature review by developing a transdisciplinary definition of an AI-generated artwork. It is proposed that an AI-generated artwork constitutes the confluence of three essential elements: (1) an autonomous AI-production of a new and surprising idea or artifact, (2) which passes an internal evaluation mechanism embedded in the very same AI, and (3) is considered a candidate of appreciation by a human audience. This definition provides a unified conceptual foundation to facilitate interdisciplinary research and deepen understanding of the nature of AI-generated art. Subsequent research should explore the applicability of this definition to diverse forms of AI-generated artworks and evaluate its implications for artistic practices.

Accurate, global Potential Energy Surfaces (PES) expressed in sum-of-products (SOP) form are a prerequisite for efficient high-dimensional quantum dynamics simulations using the MCTDH method. This work introduces a methodology for constructing such surfaces by combining hierarchical sparse grid sampling with a single-layer neural network using sinusoidal activation functions (sinNN). The sparse grid strategy provides a rigorous, unbiased discretization of the configuration space, enabling systematic improvability of the PES fidelity, where accuracy is strictly controlled by the refinement level, while successfully mitigating the curse of dimensionality. The sinNN fitting approach leverages a trigonometric factorization identity to maintain a compact SOP form, offering superior numerical stability compared to standard exponential-based networks (expNN) for the systems investigated. The flexibility of the sparse grid methodology is demonstrated through a dual-reference strategy, where grids centered on distinct isomers are merged to eliminate topological bias. This optimized sampling yields a global PES that reproduces fundamental vibrational transition energies for both trans- and cis-HONO with spectroscopic precision (< 2.5 cm-1) and high data efficiency. Finally, the methodology is applied to fit potential energies computed via the AI-enhanced quantum mechanical method AIQM2. The resulting AIQM2-based PES for HONO reproduces experimental vibrational frequencies with a root mean square deviation of about 16 cm-1, a performance comparable to high-level ab initio methods. The robustness of the approach is further confirmed on larger molecules, formic acid (HCOOH) and carbamic acid (H2NCOOH), establishing the combination of sparse grid sampling and sinNN fitting as a powerful, automated tool for generating topologically sound, spectroscopic-quality potential energy surfaces.

As a part of liberal arts education, ESG should provide college students with the knowledge and practical opportunities necessary for participation and coexistence with people and as citizens of the community. However, in order for the goals of ESG education to be realized, particularly when it comes to participation and coexistence, ESG content must be organized first. In order to construct ESG content, this study analyzed the content validity of 4 liberal arts professors and the subjective suitability of the ESG content composition among 164 college students. Five topics were selected for their ESG content that is suitable for general education in the environmental field: climate change and carbon emissions, waste management, energy efficiency, environmental regulations, and biodiversity. In the social sector, four topics were selected: community relations, data protection, human rights⋅gender⋅diversity, and worker safety. In the governance area, three areas were extracted: corporate ethics, bribery and anti-corruption, and fair competition. In the future, ESG liberal arts education needs to be approached with content related to 12 topics. In addition, ESG in liberal arts education should be approached by integrating the three areas rather than providing a curriculum for each of the E(environment), S(society), and G(governance) areas, and should be conducted in such a way that it that integrates ESG theory and practice cases.

The goal of the current study is to determine whether online liberal arts English classes can improve students' cultural awareness and interest. The online English learning environment has drawn a lot of attention from EFL educators as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic. There are several factors that have an impact on the culture aspects of EFL learning. Yet, there is scant research showing how certain features of culture learning can be effectively applied in the Korean EFL context. This study investigates the links between English language proficiency, pre-interest, and interactions with instructors to determine whether aspects of online liberal arts English classes have a favorable impact on students' interest in foreign cultures. Participants came from 84 Listening, Reading, Speaking I and II classes, totaling 1,421. With the use of Microsoft Teams, the classes were delivered online for 15 weeks. After that, a survey was used to measure students’ pre-interest in English language learning, language achievement, interactions with professors, and cultural understanding. The results of that survey—which used the Naver Office Form—were evaluated using SPSS version 26 to examine any relevant statistics. The findings identified three factors that contribute to students' cultural understanding and interest in online liberal arts English classes. Among these factors, interactions with instructors had the most significant impact, followed by pre-interest and language proficiency. The data suggests that interactions with professors during online EFL classes play a more critical role in promoting students' understanding and interest in other cultures than factors such as English language achievement and pre-interest in English. The effect was particularly pronounced in speaking I and II classes. Therefore, it is crucial for educators to utilize various methods and technologies to encourage interactions between students and professors in online EFL classes. This study makes a significant contribution to the literature by analyzing the specific factors that influence students' cultural understanding and interest and highlighting the critical role of interactions with professors in online liberal arts English classes.

In this article, we introduce adaptive estimators for parameters of the (GPD) Generalized Pareto Distribution under censored data via the KIB-estimator. The KIB-estimator is based on the Maximum Likelihood Estimates (MLE) by the exceedances over the threshold t under random censoring which was developed by [1]. Hence, it was proved that the KIB-estimator is Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimator with the uncensored case. We use the standardized MLE based on the exceedances on the uncensored situation which converge to a centered bivariate normal distribution. Whose found by [2] to standardized our adaptive KIB estimator of the GPD parameters under random censorship. As an application, we establish the asymptotic normality of an estimator of the excess-of- loss reinsurance premium for heavy-tailed distribution, through the adapted KIB estimator of GPD under censored data.

The paper focuses on Joris Karl Huysmans, the famous author and art critic and as is well know, passionate about Moreau and Redon. In addition to this interest, many pages of his novels are dedicated to a very interesting topic: the Flamish Primitives Painters. From a general point of view, their fortune over the centuries has been established from quite a long time. But Huysmans, unlike most writers, exhibits a specific competence and can be considered as a true art critic, focused on matter of style, quality and connoisseurship.

A new class of tools, colloquially called generative AI, can produce high-quality artistic media for visual arts, concept art, music, fiction, literature, video, and animation. The generative capabilities of these tools are likely to fundamentally alter the creative processes by which creators formulate ideas and put them into production. As creativity is reimagined, so too may be many sectors of society. Understanding the impact of generative AI - and making policy decisions around it - requires new interdisciplinary scientific inquiry into culture, economics, law, algorithms, and the interaction of technology and creativity. We argue that generative AI is not the harbinger of art's demise, but rather is a new medium with its own distinct affordances. In this vein, we consider the impacts of this new medium on creators across four themes: aesthetics and culture, legal questions of ownership and credit, the future of creative work, and impacts on the contemporary media ecosystem. Across these themes, we highlight key research questions and directions to inform policy and beneficial uses of the technology.
