Critical behavior of AdS Gauss–Bonnet massive black holes in the presence of external string cloud

Hadi Ranjbari, M. Sadeghi, M. Ghanaatian et al.

Following previous study about AdS-Schwarzschild black holes minimally coupled to a cloud of strings in the context of massive gravity (Ghanaatian et al. in Effects of the external string cloud on the Van der Waals like behavior and efficiency of AdS-Schwarzschild black hole in massive gravity, arXiv:1906.00369 [hep-th]) and inspired by strong connection between Gauss–Bonnet Gravity and heterotic string theory, in this paper, we first take into account the Gauss–Bonnet term and we study thermodynamics and critical behavior of these black holes in the extended phase space. The effects of Gauss–Bonnet, massive, and string cloud parameters on the criticality of these black holes has been investigated. It can be seen that the Gauss–Bonnet and massive parameters have opposite effects on the criticality and phase transition of the solutions. We also observe that the increase in the value of the string cloud parameter above a critical value, eliminates the van der Waals like behavior of these solutions. Also, the Joule–Thomson effect is not observed. Then we examine thermal stability of these black holes in canonical ensemble by calculating the heat capacity. In addition, we explore critical behavior in extended phase space by employing heat capacity and consequently, we observe that the results are in agreement with the previous results from the usual method in Sect.  3 .

Discrete Painlevé system and the double scaling limit of the matrix model for irregular conformal block and gauge theory

H. Itoyama, T. Oota, K. Yano

Abstract We study the partition function of the matrix model of finite size that realizes the irregular conformal block for the case of the N = 2 supersymmetric S U ( 2 ) gauge theory with N f = 2 . This model has been obtained in arXiv:1008.1861 [hep-th] as the massive scaling limit of the β-deformed matrix model representing the conformal block. We point out that the model for the case of β = 1 can be recast into a unitary matrix model with log potential and show that it is exhibited as a discrete Painleve system by the method of orthogonal polynomials. We derive the Painleve II equation, taking the double scaling limit in the vicinity of the critical point which is the Argyres–Douglas type point of the corresponding spectral curve. By the 0d-4d dictionary, we obtain the time variable and the parameter of the double scaled theory respectively from the sum and the difference of the two mass parameters scaled to their critical values.

On $dS_4$ extremal surfaces and entanglement entropy in some ghost CFTs

K. Narayan

In arXiv:1501.03019 [hep-th], the areas of certain complex extremal surfaces in de Sitter space were found to have resemblance with entanglement entropy in appropriate dual Euclidean non-unitary CFTs, with the area being real and negative in $dS_4$. In this paper, we study some toy models of 2-dim ghost conformal field theories with negative central charge with a view to exploring this further from the CFT point of view. In particular we consider $bc$-ghost systems with central charge $c=-2$ and study the replica formulation for entanglement entropy for a single interval, and associated issues arising in this case, notably pertaining to (i) the $SL(2)$ vacuum coinciding with the ghost ground state, and (ii) the background charge inherent in these systems which leads to particular forms for the norms of states (involving zero modes). This eventually gives rise to negative entanglement entropy. We also discuss a (logarithmic) CFT of anti-commuting scalars, with similarities in some features. Finally we discuss a simple toy model of two "ghost-spins" which mimics some of these features.

New insights into properties of large-N holographic thermal QCD at finite gauge coupling at (the non-conformal/next-to) leading order in N

Karunava Sil, A. Misra

It is believed that large-N thermal QCD laboratories like strongly coupled QGP (sQGP) require not only a large ‘t Hooft coupling but also a finite gauge coupling (Natsuume, String theory and quark–gluon plasma. arXiv:hep-ph/0701201, 2007). Unlike almost all top–down holographic models in the literature, holographic large-N thermal QCD models, based on this assumption, therefore necessarily require addressing this limit from M-theory. This was initiated in Dhuria and Misra (JHEP 1311:001, 2013) which presented a local M-theory uplift of the string theoretic dual of large-N thermal QCD-like theories at finite gauge/string coupling of Mia et al. (Nucl. Phys. B 839:187, arXiv:0902.1540 [hep-th], 2010) ($$g_s\mathop { deformation – this paper) or deformed (deformation > resolution – Dhuria and Misra in Eur Phys J C 75(1):16, arXiv:1406.6076 [hep-th], 2015) resolved warped deformed conifold, the local $$T^3$$T3 of Dhuria and Misra (JHEP 1311:001, arXiv:1306.4339 [hep-th], 2013) in the MQGP limit is the $$T^2$$T2-invariant special Lagrangian three-cycle of Ionel and Min-OO (Ill J Math 52(3), 2008) justifying the construction in Dhuria and Misra (JHEP 1311:001, arXiv:1306.4339 [hep-th], 2013) of the delocalized Strominger–Yau–Zaslow Type IIA mirror of the Type IIB background of Mia et al. (Nucl Phys B 839:187, arXiv:0902.1540 [hep-th], 2010).

Aspects of the refined Gribov-Zwanziger action in linear covariant gauges

M. Capri, D. Fiorentini, A. Pereira et al.

We prove the renormalizability to all orders of a refined Gribov-Zwanziger type action in linear covariant gauges in four-dimensional Euclidean space. In this model, the Gribov copies are taken into account by requiring that the Faddeev-Popov operator is positive definite with respect to the transverse component of the gauge field, a procedure which turns out to be analogous to the restriction to the Gribov region in the Landau gauge. The model studied here can be regarded as the first approximation of a more general nonperturbative BRST invariant formulation of the refined Gribov-Zwanziger action in linear covariant gauges obtained recently in [Phys. Rev. D 92, no. 4, 045039 (2015) and arXiv:1605.02610 [hep-th]]. A key ingredient of the set up worked out in [Phys. Rev. D 92, no. 4, 045039 (2015) and arXiv:1605.02610 [hep-th]] is the introduction of a gauge invariant field configuration $\mathbf{A}_{\mu}$ which can be expressed as an infinite non-local series in the starting gauge field $A_\mu$. In the present case, we consider the approximation in which only the first term of the series representing $\mathbf{A}_{\mu}$ is considered, corresponding to a pure transverse gauge field. The all order renormalizability of the resulting action gives thus a strong evidence of the renormalizability of the aforementioned more general nonperturbative BRST invariant formulation of the Gribov horizon in linear covariant gauges.

Some classes of renormalizable tensor models

J. B. Geloun, E. Livine

We identify new families of renormalizable tensor models from anterior renormalizable tensor models via a mapping capable of reducing or increasing the rank of the theory without having an effect on the renormalizability property. Mainly, a version of the rank 3 tensor model as defined by Ben Geloun and Samary [Ann. Henri Poincare 14, 1599 (2013); e-print arXiv:1201.0176 [hep-th]]10.1007/s00023-012-0225-5 and the Grosse-Wulkenhaar model in 4D and 2D generate three different classes of renormalizable models. The proof of the renormalizability is fully performed for the first reduced model. The same procedure can be applied for the remaining cases. Interestingly, we find that, due to the peculiar behavior of anisotropic wave function renormalizations, the rank 3 tensor model reduced to a matrix model generates a simple super-renormalizable vector model.
