A nonautonomous periodic chemostat model with delays modelling $n$ species in competition is considered. Sufficient conditions on the coefficients and consumption functions for the species are given, for both the extinction of the species and for the existence of $n$ nontrivial and nonnegative periodic solutions. Further criteria guarantee that the system admits at least one strictly positive periodic solution.

La alta prevalencia de enfermedades crónicas, puede requerir el tratamiento en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) y desde las Universidades es indispensable formar a enfermeras como especialistas en cuidado crítico, que con sus conocimientos y aplicación del cuidado contribuyan a disminuir las tasas de morbilidad y mortalidad de estas enfermedades. Objetivo: Identificar la percepción sobre la formación académica en la especialización en enfermería para el cuidado del paciente en estado crítico en la Universidad Mariana. Métodos: La investigación se basó en el enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo y corte transversal, en el cual se aplicó un cuestionario electrónico con preguntas estructuradas a una muestra no probabilística conformada por docentes, egresados y estudiantes de la especialización en enfermería para el cuidado del paciente en estado crítico. Resultados: El 60% de los docentes, el 64,7% de los egresados y el 63,2% de los estudiantes consideran importante manejar el código deontológico en enfermería para el ejercicio del cuidado crítico, al igual que la aplicación de gestión y gerencia, los modelos y teorías de enfermería. Conclusión: Estudiantes, docentes y egresados de la especialización en cuidado critico indican que es importante incluir actividades académicas en el proceso formativo que permitan fortalecer el conocimiento, el desarrollo de nuevas habilidades, la vinculación del campo de trabajo y entorno social.

We use methods from algebra and discrete geometry to study the irreducibility of the dispersion polynomial of a discrete periodic operator associated to a periodic graph after changing the period lattice. We provide numerous applications of these results to discrete periodic operators associated to families of graphs which include dense periodic graphs, and a family containing the hexagonal and diamond lattices.

This study aimed to analyze the research trends on salivary oxidative stress associated with dental caries and to perform bibliometric approaches for existing publications on this association. A search was performed using the Web of Science Core Collection, without any restriction of language or publication year. The number of periodicals with the most published articles in this theme, most published authors and keywords were mapped; other metrics were also evaluated such as the countries that have more research on the subject and the period in which there were more publications on the subject. During the knowledge mapping, the most frequent experimental designs were analyzed, type of saliva collection, stage of caries disease, evaluated oxidative parameters were retrieved and analyzed from each manuscript. Between the 43 selected articles, the <i>Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry</i> was the periodical appearing the most with 4 published articles. The authors who published the most were Celec, P., Tothova, L., Hegde, A.M., Shetty, S., Antoniali, C., and Pessan, JP with three articles each, and a total of 180 keywords representing the evolution of the theme. India and Asia were found to be the country and continent with most publications, respectively. Most articles collected non-stimulated total saliva, with total antioxidant capacity being the parameter most often evaluated. The type of study that appeared the most was cross-sectional studies, and articles published in the period of 2017–2022 were the most frequent. Studies show that dental caries can be associated to the changes in salivary oxidative biochemistry with an increase in lipid peroxidation, a biomarker of oxidative damage, and an increase in antioxidant capacity in chronic caries, in response to cariogenic challenge. Some studies evidence the reduction of lipid peroxidation after treatment of the carious lesion. Our findings reveal worldwide research trends, as well as a clearer knowledge of the evolution and future scenarios of this issue, also showing the mechanisms associating dental caries with changes in salivary oxidative biochemical parameters are not clear.

Abtract: Exile journals have a fixed place in German-language Exile Studies, which is strongly influenced by literary history. New research projects on translation history, such as Exil:Trans (2019–2022) on German-speaking Translators in Exile (1933–1945), are in the vanguard of a re-evaluation of exile journals and their translation-historical potential, including questions of multilingualism. Who translated what in the journals, and how, and what can it tell us about translation under conditions of exile and the related approach to multilingualism? Mitmekeelsus ja tõlge: juhtumiuuring pagulasperioodikast (1933–1945)   Tõlkimine kui keeltevaheline suhtlusakt on üks kultuurilisi aluspraktikaid ning seda on võimalik kasutada eri eesmärkidel mitmesugustes kontekstides. Tõlge on alati ajalooline nähtus ning seda saab uurida üksnes sellisel moel. Pagulus kui tegevusraam pakub tõlkega seoses arvukaid võimalusi, sest seostub keele- ja kultuuripiiride ületamisega sunnitud mobiilsuse tingimustes. Saksakeelne eksiil aastatel 1933–1945 ei ole erandiks ning selle mitmesuguseid tahke on uuritud enam kui 70 aastat, eriti kirjandusloo kontekstis. Kuni viimase ajani mängis tõlge sellises teadustöös üksnes marginaalset rolli. On tehtud mõningaid uurimusi paguluse keeleliste aspektide kohta, mis on puudutanud ka tõlkega seotud teemasid, nagu näiteks keelevahetus või tuntud autorite enesetõlkimine. Kuid tõlget kasutati sageli migratsiooniprotsessis tõlgituks osutumise metafoorina või siis piirduti kirjandusloominguga, nt selliste autorite puhul nagu Klaus Mann, Paul Celan, Hilde Domin jr.  Tõlke või tõlkimise pragmaatilistele aspektidele tegevusena, mis on kirjandusliku autoriloominguga võrdne, kuid seisab sellest eraldi, ei pööratud tavaliselt tähelepanu, nagu ka ajakirjanduslikule ja teadustõlkele.  Projekt „Exil:Trans“ (2019–2022) oli esimene katse täita seda uurimislünka saksa keelt kõnelevate pagulaste osas. Projektis uuriti Saksamaalt põgenenud isikute tõlkealast tegutsemist. Võimalik, et need inimesed jõudsid tõlkimise juurde üksnes maapao kaudu või pärast seda. Tegu ei olnud ainuüksi kirjanikega, vaid ka ajakirjanike ja teadlastega ning ka kunstnike, arstide ja paljude teiste valdkondade esindajatega. Projekti osana vaadeldi ka tarbetõlke (argitõlke) aspekte. Materjali otsimisel osutus väga viljakaks pagulasperioodika. Perioodiliste väljaannete kaudu tuli päevavalgele palju materjali: avaldamata teoseid (tõlkeid), tundmatuid tõlkijaid, kelle hulgas oli ka tuntud kirjanikke. Projekti raames viidi läbi alusuuringuid, kogudes biobibliograafilisi baasandmeid: KES tõlkis maapaos MIDA ja KUIDAS? Eespool mainitud eksiiliuuringute, s.t maapaole pühendatud ajaloolis-kirjanduslike käsitluste tulemused pakuvad olulist sissevaadet sellesse teemasse. Siiski tuleb need autori- ja lähtekultuurikesksed andmed ümber tõlgendada tõlkelooliste küsimuste valguses.  Paguluses toimuva tõlkimisega seonduvas mängib alati rolli mitmekeelsus. Ometi ei ole selle poole kuni viimase ajani eksplitsiitselt pöördutud. Käesolev artikkel esindab katset uurida mitmekeelsuse esinemisviise pagulaste tõlketegevustes. Sel eesmärgil analüüsitakse ajakirjandusest leitud tõlkijate, kirjastajate ning kirjanike tõlketeemalisi arvamusavaldusi. Lisaks kasutatakse kvantitatiivseid meetodeid: koostatakse perioodiliste väljaannete individuaalsed tõlkeprofiilid ning kogutakse kokku kõik tõlked saksa keelde (kuupäev, koht, number), vastavate tõlkijate nimed ja lähtekeeled. Mõlemat meetodit kasutades püütakse vastata järgmistele küsimustele: kuidas tegeldi mitmekeelsusega, kas seda käsitleti ning esitati tõlkega seoses eksplitsiitselt? Milliseid strateegiaid ning tegevusvorme tõlkimisel rakendati? Kuidas kasutati tõlget maapao mitmekeelsetele kontekstidele reageerides, millistele identifitseerimisnõuetele selle abil vastati? Teadlikult kasutatakse ruumis ja ajas hajusaid näiteid – kirjandusajakiri Wort Moskvas (Nõukogude Liit), nädalaleht Orient Haifas (Palestiina), ajaleht Aufbau New Yorgis (USA), ajaleht Pariser Tageblatt (Prantsusmaa), kirjandusajakiri Die Sammlung Amsterdamis (Madalmaad). Vaadeldavad tekstid ja perioodilised väljaanded ilmusid saksakeelse eksiili väga erinevates staadiumides ning kohtades. Ilmnes, et tõlke kohtlemise ja kasutamise kaudu töötasid pagulased välja väga erinevaid mitmekeelsusega toimetulemise strateegiaid. Need ulatusid tõlkimast keeldumisest intensiivse tõlketegevuseni ning neid kasutati nii valitsevatest mitmekeelsustingimustest eraldumiseks kui ka nendega lõimumiseks. Artiklis ei esitata süstemaatilist ülevaadet, vaid soovitakse algatada diskussiooni ning rõhutatakse perioodikaväljaannete käsitlemise olulisust mitmekeelsuse uurimisel kirjandus- ja tõlkeloos.

We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for stochastic processes to have almost periodic finite dimensional distributions; in particular, we obtain characterizations for infinitely divisible processes to be almost periodic in terms of their characteristic triplets. Furthermore, we derive conditions when the process $(X_t)_{t\in\R}$ defined by the stochastic integral $X_t:= \int_{\R^d} f(t,s) dL(s)$ is almost periodic stationary and also when it is almost periodic in probability, where $f(t,\cdot)\in L^1(\R^d,\R)\cap L^2(\R^d,\R)$ is deterministic and $L$ is a Lévy basis. Moreover, we discuss almost periodic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck-type processes, and obtain a central limit theorem for $m$-dependent processes with almost periodic finite dimensional distributions.

In this paper, we study the matrix period and the competition period of Toeplitz matrices over a binary Boolean ring $\mathbb{B} = \{0,1\}$. Given subsets $S$ and $T$ of $\{1,\ldots,n-1\}$, an $n\times n$ Toeplitz matrix $A=T_n\langle S ; T \rangle$ is defined to have $1$ as the $(i,j)$-entry if and only if $j-i \in S$ or $i-j \in T$. We show that if $\max S+\min T \le n$ and $\min S+\max T \le n$, then $A$ has the matrix period $d/d'$ and the competition period $1$ where $d = \gcd (s+t \mid s \in S, t \in T)$ and $d' = \gcd(d, \min S)$. Moreover, it is shown that the limit of the matrix sequence $\{A^m(A^T)^m\}_{m=1}^\infty$ is a directed sum of matrices of all ones except zero diagonal. In many literatures we see that graph theoretic method can be used to prove strong structural properties about matrices. Likewise, we develop our work from a graph theoretic point of view.

Russian classical literature of the 19th and early 20th centuries constitutes the whole with the finest Russian journalism of the same period. Almost all famous authors started their careers by releasing their first works of literature in magazines and even in newspapers. Nevertheless, even when gaining popularity, they continued to cooperate with periodicals, offering them their masterpieces. Thus, Leo Tolstoy published his novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina in the Russkiy Vestnik [Russian Herald] magazine, while his novel Resurrection was published in Niva, the most popular Russian magazine aimed at mass reader. The writer wanted to reach as many ordinary people as possible. Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Demons, and The Brothers Karamazov first appeared in the same Russkiy Vestnik, along with Ivan Turgenev’s novel Fathers and Sons. This list is long indeed. Russian authors actively employed material published in press in their works. Therefore, the characters of Anna Karenina passionately discussed the events highlighted by the newspapers and magazines of that time. The references to certain periodicals, their brief description made it possible to understand better the mood and to expose the nature of their characters for the readers. During Soviet times, the attitude of the characters to certain newspapers and magazines displayed the role of media in public relations and their place in the political system of the country. Finally, thanks to the media subscriptions of the characters in novels and short stories, the reader could better understand their worldview, hobbies, and dreams. The authors set themselves the task of studying the specifics of the use of references to certain media as an artistic detail in literary works. They attempt to identify the role of such details in creating the artistic character, as well as in recreating the atmosphere and ideology of the era. They also examine references to journal articles read by the characters of a literary work from the perspective of intertextuality theory, as well as the task of revealing the peculiarities of the interaction of artistic and journalistic texts in the context of the era. The authors also raise the question of the possibility of using texts of literary works as a source for the study of media history.

El presente artículo hace énfasis en la interculturalidad y el juego recreativo tradicional, como incidentes en el fortalecimiento de la convivencia escolar. El artículo se basa en la investigación realizada en el municipio de Arboletes, Antioquia, dirigida a los estudiantes de cuarto grado de básica primaria de la Institución Educativa José Manuel Restrepo, sede San Isidro; tiene como principal objetivo, fortalecer el valor de la convivencia por medio del juego recreativo tradicional, como herramienta didáctica. Es un estudio de tipo cualitativo de alcance exploratorio, descriptivo y correlacional, en tanto se establece la relación entre juegos tradicionales con la convivencia intercultural y/o la interculturalidad. La estrategia diseñada e implementada implica juegos tradicionales que tienden hacia la convivencia intercultural, que busca la disminución y prevención de los problemas que se puede generar en el aula intercultural.

In this paper, we analyze various classes of multi-dimensional almost periodic type functions in general metric. The main classes of functions under our consideration are $({\mathrm R}, {\mathcal B},{\mathcal P},L)$-multi-almost periodic functions, $({\mathrm R}_{X}, {\mathcal B},{\mathcal P},L)$-multi-almost periodic functions, Bohr $({\mathcal B}, I',ρ,{\mathcal P})$-almost periodic functions and $({\mathcal B}, I',ρ,{\mathcal P})$-uniformly recurrent functions. We clarify the main structural properties for the introduced classes of almost periodic type functions and provide some applications of our results to the abstract Volterra integro-differential equations.

Periodic structures can be simulated using the periodic Method of Moments. The quasi-periodicity, i.e. periodicity within a linear phase-shift, is implemented through the use of the periodic Green's function. In this paper, we propose a technique to interpolate the impedance matrix for varying phase-shifts. To improve the accuracy, the contribution of the dominant Floquet modes and a term corresponding to a linear phase-shift are first extracted. The technique is applied to planar geometries, but can be extended to non-planar configurations.
