Pilot policies for climate-adaptive urban development and corporate greenwashing behavior

Yan Zhu, Shengnan Li, Jianbo Niu et al.

Against the backdrop of a worldwide consensus on green development and rising expectations for corporate accountability, greenwashing—an implicit, strategic form of adaptation—undermines institutional trust in environmental governance and hampers the efficient allocation of organizational resources. Using the pilot policies for climate-adaptive urban development as a quasi-natural experiment and drawing on upper-echelons theory and endowment theory, this study systematically examines how incentive-based regulation curbs corporate greenwashing and through which channels it operates. The evidence shows that the pilot policies significantly reduce greenwashing by (i) elevating executives’ environmental awareness through a suite of incentives and (ii) improving corporate access to green financing, thereby dampening their motivation to misrepresent environmental performance. The mitigating effect is more pronounced in firms whose top teams have limited green experience, in regions with low public environmental concern, in non-state-owned enterprises, and in highly competitive industries. Additional analysis reveals that the policies enhance firm value precisely by suppressing greenwashing. By focusing on these pilot policies, the paper underscores the positive spillovers of incentive-oriented environmental regulation and offers guidance for governments seeking to steer enterprises and build a resilient climate-governance framework.

Washington Quintero Montaño , Mariela Choez Icaza, Andrea Montes Cantos

Directions of application of artificial intelligence in digital marketing communications

O. V. Firsanova, S. V. Brovchak, V. V. Kulebyakin

The digital transformation of modern economic life has found its reflection in the field of marketing communications, having formed a virtually new form of communication between market entities-digital. A distinctive feature of this form is the personalization of the message, the high selectivity of the consumer’s choice, as well as the possibility of a permanent communication process in which the consumer has the opportunity to independently create content about the company and its product, as well as actively distribute it for their own purposes, sometimes different from the goals of the company. The use of digital marketing communications in the activities of companies provides a number of advantages, such as the infinity and global coverage of the market, the versatility of market impact effects, personalization of communications, etc., which cannot be realized without artificial intelligence technologies. The scope of artificial intelligence in modern companies is extensive. Today, many innovative solutions for the automation of production and other business processes of companies are unthinkable without artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is «busy» in routine marketing processes, for example, accompanying the process of purchasing and delivering goods to the consumer, etc.   The subject of research in this article is the possibility of creating content, implementing the targeting process and other areas of application in digital marketing communications of artificial intelligence.   The object of the study is modern developments in the field of digital marketing communications, which contribute to the formation of effective interactions with the consumer by «fixing» them in behavioral models.

Protocol for implementing the concept of citizen scientists for HealthWise Wales: a national population study

Julia Townson

ABSTRACT Objectives HealthWise Wales is a national cohort study, aiming to recruit 260,000 people, over 16, living in, or accessing health services in Wales, within 5 years. The aims are; to create a cohort with longitudinal follow up data on behavioural and environmental exposures, using data linkage to healthcare datasets and outcomes; create a register of potential research participants; actively engage the public in research, inviting them to identify priorities. Research areas of importance include impact of social inequalities on health and well-being; effect of environment/neighbourhood on health; maintenance of health and well-being in the working age population and later life. Successful recruitment relies on public engagement strategies, engaging community members to engage others in their immediate community, and using local people to collect data and act as citizen scientists. Approach Involving People Network members were invited to take part in an advisory group to discuss the possibility of members of the public acting as citizen scientists for HealthWise Wales. An advisory group was established in North and South Wales to inform this protocol. Researchers, through meetings and communication, directed members to other citizen scientist projects and 3rd sector groups that have utilised similar methods. The advisory group also considered online citizen scientist projects. Results Members of the group agreed that the term champion was more appropriate than citizen scientist. Levels of commitment and the role were discussed and members concluded that overall they thought it was a good idea. They stressed training would be necessary, as well as concise and clear messaging to allow HWW champions to talk confidently about the project. They felt it was important champions decide their own level of commitment and involvement. Two levels of champions were agreed: the first level where people will commit to finding out more about the project by either attending a training session or watching an online video; and the second where they pledge to engage members from their existing networks and communities through events, clubs and activities which they might already participate in. Conclusion The concept of HealthWise Champion is agreeable to members of the public but appropriate training and support will need to be provided. Materials will be developed in conjunction with the advisory group members to ensure that HealthWise Wales Champions are able to clearly and confidently disseminate the more difficult elements of the study to others e.g data linkage. An evaluation will be available by July.

Short-Term Expectation Formation Versus Long-Term Equilibrium Conditions: The Danish Housing Market

Andreas Hetland, Simon Hetland

The primary contribution of this paper is to establish that the long-swings behavior observed in the market price of Danish housing since the 1970s can be understood by studying the interplay between short-term expectation formation and long-run equilibrium conditions. We introduce an asset market model for housing based on uncertainty rather than risk, which under mild assumptions allows for other forms of forecasting behavior than rational expectations. We test the theory via an I(2) cointegrated VAR model and find that the long-run equilibrium for the housing price corresponds closely to the predictions from the theoretical framework. Additionally, we corroborate previous findings that housing markets are well characterized by short-term momentum forecasting behavior. Our conclusions have wider relevance, since housing prices play a role in the wider Danish economy, and other developed economies, through wealth effects.

Intimate Partner Violence and Women’s Economic and Non-Economic Activities in Minya, Egypt

Kathryn M. Yount, Sarah Zureick-Brown, Rania Salem

Abstract Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women is widespread, but its implications for their economic and non-economic activities are understudied. Leveraging new data from 564 ever-married women aged 22–65 in rural Minya, Egypt, we estimated logistic regressions and zero-inflated negative binomial regressions to test spillover, compensation, and patriarchal bargaining theories about the influences of women’s exposure to IPV on their engagement in and time spent on market, subsistence, domestic, and care work. Supporting compensation theory, exposures to lifetime, recent, and chronic physical or sexual IPV were associated with higher adjusted odds of performing market work in the prior month, and exposures to recent and chronic IPV were associated with higher adjusted odds of performing subsistence work in this period. Supporting compensation and patriarchal bargaining theories, exposures to recent and chronic IPV were associated with more time spent on domestic work in the prior day. Supporting spillover and patriarchal bargaining theories, exposures to lifetime IPV of all forms were associated with lower adjusted odds of performing mostly nonspousal care work in the prior day, and this association was partially mediated by women’s generalized anxiety. Women in rural Minya who are exposed to IPV may escalate their housework to fulfill local norms of feminine domesticity while substituting economic activities for nonspousal care work to enhance their economic independence from violent partners.
