Ali Nazaritehrani, B. Mashali

There is fierce global competition within the banking industry. Therefore, banks endeavor to grow and strive to increase their market share. We analyzed the effect of developing innovative channels of presenting bank services on banks’ market share. The statistical population of this research was Shahr bank’s central headquarter and its branches in Tehran, Iran. We developed questionnaires for gathering the data. The validity and reliability of the scales were tested by EFA, CFA, experts’ opinion, and Cronbach’s alpha. We used linear regression to assess the impact of innovative channels, including internet banking, automatic teller machines (ATMs), mobile banking, telephone banking (TB), and point of sales (POS) on banks’ market share. The results indicated that some of these channels, including internet banking, POS, and TB, positively affect a bank’s market share. The effect of two other platforms, including mobile banking and ATM development, on banks’ market share was rejected. The findings of this study expand our understanding of how bank managers can improve their market share by developing innovative e-banking channels.

The Next Generation of eHealth: A Multidisciplinary Survey

C. Suraci, Vincenzo de Angelis, Giuseppina Lofaro et al.

Over the past two years, the spread of COVID-19 has spurred the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in aid of healthcare. The need to guarantee continuity to care has promoted research and industry activities aimed at developing solutions for the digitalization of the procedures to be performed to provide health services, even in emergency scenarios. Digital collection, transmission, and processing of health data represent the starting point for fulfilling this innovation process but also bring heterogeneous challenges. These motivations led to the elaboration of this work, which analyzes innovative and technological tools for the development of digital health (eHealth) through the collection of multisectoral literature, produced thanks to the cooperation of varied research groups, thus providing a multidisciplinary survey. Since digital health is expected to be one of the leading applications of the sixth-generation (6G) wireless cellular networks, this paper covers the related telecommunications aspects. Furthermore, the exploitation of artificial intelligence paradigms to elaborate massive amounts of biological data is examined. Given the extreme sensitivity of health data, this paper also investigates security and privacy issues. In particular, the main techniques and approaches to guarantee security properties (i.e., anonymity, responsibility, authentication, confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, and revocability) are studied. Applications involving innovative electromagnetic systems for healthcare and assisted living services are described to provide an example of an eHealth scenario leveraging ICT. Finally, the telemedicine-related regulations of the European Commission are analyzed, with particular reference to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Maximizing the Rate of IRS-Assisted Downlink NOMA Systems

Xinying Li, Haixia Wei, Haiyan Huang et al.

Nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) techniques and intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) are being explored as potential essential technologies for future wireless communications. Accordingly, this paper provides a network framework for IRS-aided downlink NOMA transmission, in which IRS is employed to improve the NOMA system’s transmission performance, and optimization problems are raised to maximize the achievable rate. Given the fractional structure of multivariate coupling as presented in this study, the fractional problem first converts to a linear form; then, the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) algorithm is proposed to address nonconvex issues for a single-user scenario. As for a multiuser scenario, the alternating optimization (AO) algorithm is raised based on transmit beamforming and reflection phase shift matrix to settle relevant issues and mitigate computational complexity. The simulation results suggest that the algorithm described in this paper can significantly increase the signal’s achievable rate compared to the nondeployed IRS and IRS random phase-shifting schemes.

Tao Hong, Yixuan Jiang, Cui Wang

The aim of this study is to solve the problem of RFID reader antenna deployment when an obstacle in the environment or the material itself is an obstacle. The article establishes a new reader antenna constraint model based on the rectangular obstacle RFID antenna deployment optimization environment model and the reader antenna sensing model containing Gaussian distribution noise probability and applies the improved firefly algorithm to find the optimum with coverage rate, interference degree, and load balance function as multiobjective functions. First, to obtain a uniform traversal of the target space, and a cube mapping is applied for chaos initialization. Second, a weighting model is proposed to control the speed of firefly variation and combine the variable step strategy of elite individuals to expand the movement step of elite individuals and reduce the movement step of nonelite individuals to improve population diversity. Finally, to improve the algorithm’s continuous optimality-seeking ability, a Gaussian variation operation strategy based on elite fireflies is introduced to ensure the algorithm’s optimality-seeking throughout the process.

Fast Synthesis Method for Large Aperture Array Pattern in the Presence of Array Errors

Lihuan Huo, Rulong Bai, Fei Xue et al.

In this paper, an improved array synthesis method with array errors is proposed for large aperture arrays. Because of the array errors such as amplitude-phase errors and positions errors, the performance of the array synthesis is reduced seriously. Firstly, the ideal fast low sidelobe synthesis method is obtained based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) method. Then, by using Taylor expansion to remove the coupling relationship between the position of the element and the scanning angle, the compensation matrix for the pattern function and the array weighted vector with amplitude phase and position errors are derived. At last, the conversion relationship between the array with errors and the array weight vector is corrected in the iterative process. The theoretical simulation experiments verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for the linear array and rectangular array pattern synthesis. Then, the influence of Taylor expansion order on the pattern synthesis results is analysed.

Deep Q-Learning Based Computation Offloading Strategy for Mobile Edge Computing

Yifei Wei, Zhaoying Wang, Da Guo et al.

To reduce the transmission latency and mitigate the backhaul burden of the centralized cloud-based network services, the mobile edge computing (MEC) has been drawing increased attention from both industry and academia recently. This paper focuses on mobile users’ computation offloading problem in wireless cellular networks with mobile edge computing for the purpose of optimizing the computation offloading decision making policy. Since wireless network states and computing requests have stochastic properties and the environment’s dynamics are unknown, we use the model-free reinforcement learning (RL) framework to formulate and tackle the computation offloading problem. Each mobile user learns through interactions with the environment and the estimate of its performance in the form of value function, then it chooses the overhead-aware optimal computation offloading action (local computing or edge computing) based on its state. The state spaces are high-dimensional in our work and value function is unrealistic to estimate. Consequently, we use deep reinforcement learning algorithm, which combines RL method Q-learning with the deep neural network (DNN) to approximate the value functions for complicated control applications, and the optimal policy will be obtained when the value function reaches convergence. Simulation results showed that the effectiveness of the proposed method in comparison with baseline methods in terms of total overheads of all mobile users.

Work stress prevention needs of employees and supervisors

B. M. Havermans, E. Brouwers, R. A. Hoek et al.

BackgroundWork stress prevention can reduce health risks for individuals, as well as organisational and societal costs. The success of work stress interventions depends on proper implementation. Failure to take into account the needs of employees and supervisors can hinder intervention implementation. This study aimed to explore employee and supervisor needs regarding organisational work stress prevention.MethodsSemi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with employees (n = 7) and supervisors (n = 8) from different sectors, such as the finance, health care, and services industry. The interviews focused on respondents’ needs regarding the prevention of work stress within an organisational setting. Performing thematic analysis, topics and themes were extracted from the verbatim transcribed interviews using Atlas.ti.ResultsBoth employees and supervisors reported a need for: 1) communication about work stress, 2) attention for determinants of work stress, 3) supportive circumstances (prerequisites) for work stress prevention, 4) involvement of various stakeholders in work stress prevention, and 5) availability of work stress prevention measures. Both employees and supervisors expressed the need for supervisors to communicate about work stress. Employees and supervisors reported similar psychosocial work factors that should be targeted for prevention (e.g., social support and autonomy). There was greater variety in the sub-themes within communication about work stress and supportive circumstances for work stress prevention in supervisor responses, and greater variety in the sub-themes within availability of work stress prevention measures in employee responses.ConclusionsBoth employees and supervisors were explicit about who should take part in communication about work stress, what prerequisites for work stress prevention should exist, and which stakeholders should be involved. These results can inform work stress prevention practice, supporting selection and implementation of interventions.Trial registrationThis study was registered in the Netherlands National Trial Register, trial code: NTR5527.

Nose-Cone Conformal Substrate-Integrated Waveguide Slot Array Antenna for X-Band Radar Applications

Hisham Khalil, M. Mansoor Ahmed, Umair Rafique

This paper presents the design of nose-cone conformal substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) slot array antenna for modern radar applications. Firstly, the wave propagation characteristics have been investigated in doubly curved SIW, and it has been observed that they are non-uniform along the longitudinal direction of nose-cone conformal SIW. To ensure the constant wave propagation along the length of conformal SIW, the conventional design of SIW is reformulated for nose-cone conformal SIW and circuit model modification has been demonstrated. Secondly, the procedure for designing a SIW-based array on curved surfaces has been developed. In the proposed design, rectangular waveguide (RWG) to SIW feeding structure has been used to avoid spurious radiations. Finally, 1 × 6 element-based nose-cone conformal slotted array has been designed and compared with planar and cylindrical conformal arrays. It has been observed from the results that the nose-cone conformal slot array offers low sidelobe levels (SLLs) and high gain. For the validation of the proposed design, the conformal slotted array has been fabricated and measured, which exhibited a reasonable agreement between the measured and the simulated data.

Classification and Localization of Mixed Sources after Blind Calibration of Unknown Mutual Coupling

Kai Wang, Ling Wang, Jian Xie et al.

In order to deal with the problem of passive mixed source localization under unknown mutual coupling, the authors propose an effective algorithm. This algorithm provides array blind calibration as well as classification and localization of mixed sources in this paper. In practice, an ideal sensor array without the effects of unknown mutual coupling is rarely satisfied, which degrades the performance of most high-resolution algorithms. Firstly, the directions of arrival of far-field sources and the number of nonzero mutual coupling coefficients are estimated directly through the rank-reduction type method. Then, these estimates are adopted to reconstruct the mutual coupling matrix. In addition, the fourth-order cumulant technique is required to eliminate the Gauss colored noise effects caused by mutual coupling calibration of the raw received data vector. Finally, in an algebraic way, the results of rapid classification and localization of near-field sources are obtained without any spectral search. The proposed algorithm is described in detail, and its behavior is illustrated by numerical examples.
