It is well known that Kazakh kuy art, depending on its geographical and regional characteristics as well as performance features, is divided into various regional kuy traditions. Among them, the kuy tradition of Eastern Kazakhstan has deep historical roots and covers a vast territory. One of its branches is the kuy school (күй мектебі) of the Kazakhs of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. In this region — in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, as well as in Altay, Tarbagatai, Ili, and the prefectures of Sanji, Boro-Tala, the Kumul region, Gansu province, and the cities of Kuytun, Shihezi, and Urumqi — about two million of our compatriots reside. The study of kuy art in these regions can be said to be at an early stage in domestic scholarship.\r\nThe article addresses the following issues: 1) a description of the kuyshi’s creative work, and 2) a musical analysis of the most notable compositions by the above-mentioned performer.\r\nThe article is based on materials collected during the author’s ethnographic and folklore expedition conducted in January 2024 in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture (city of Kuldzha). The applied methods include the comparative-typological and system-ethnophonic approach (I. Matsiyevsky). The methodology for analyzing dombra kuys developed by Professor S. Öteğalieva is also used. For certain compositions, their origin stories and content are presented, along with a detailed musical analysis.\r\n","source":"DOAJ","year":2025,"language":"","subjects":["The performing arts. This study aims to design a sustainable business model that integrates artistic and economic dimensions in dance production practices. By adopting a descriptive qualitative approach and reviewing literature from various sources, this study explores performing arts monetization practices, revenue diversification strategies, and digital technology-based innovations such as crowdfunding, merchandise, and digital products. The study results show that the sustainability of the dance industry is highly dependent on the ability of artists to build an adaptive, collaborative, and culturally value-based business system. The integration of choreographers' artistic visions and economic strategies has been shown to increase the resilience of arts organizations to crises, expand their audience base, and strengthen the socio-economic legitimacy of dance. This study provides a conceptual contribution to the development of an arts business model framework relevant to the context of the creative industry in the digital era, as well as practical implications for artists and policymakers in supporting a sustainable performing arts ecosystem.","source":"Semantic Scholar","year":2025,"language":"en","subjects":null,"doi":"10.56107/ijpa.v4i2.263","url":"https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/77a6c6c5271e429165a3d65410699b8c20f3b6fe","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":69},{"id":"ss_482e16196bececd3aba47faccf74ff639b153c51","title":"THE CREATIVE TANDEM “AQUERIAS” – “BRATY BLYUZU” AMONG YOUNG PERFORMERS OF THE ARTISTIC PROJECT “UKRAINE. SPRING. SLAVUTYCH–1995”","authors":[{"name":"Oksana Lan"}],"abstract":"An important stage in the process of Slavytych’s cultural self-determination was the organization of large-scale artistic events in the early 1990s including cultural initiatives functioning as a means of shaping the city’s identity. In 1995, a major international art project titled “Ukrayina. Vesna. Slavutych” took place with the participation of well-known young Ukrainian artists among whom were the band “Braty Blyuzu” and the modern ballet “Aquerias” performing a joint piece. During the implementation of these initiatives, the interaction of two main cultural processes was observed. On the one hand, the organization of artistic events involving foreign stars helped shape the image of Slavutych as a city open to dialogue and innovative practices. On the other hand, the participation of leading Ukrainian performers in international show business projects contributed to their symbolic “Europeanization” meaning their integration into the international cultural context which opened new opportunities for their future professional growth. The purpose of the article is to define the creative work of the tandem between the band “Braty Blyuzu” and the modern ballet “Aquerias” within the group of young performers of the artistic action “Ukrayina. Vesna. Slavutych” (1995) alongside an analysis of the event and its historical and cultural-artistic contribution in the context of the development of Ukrainian stage art. The scientific novelty of the work lies in a detailed description of the art project “Ukrayina. Vesna. Slavutych” (1995) and the definition of the creativity of the tandem consisting of the modern ballet “Aquerias” written as “Aquerias” (O. L.) and the band “Braty Blyuzu”. This includes the analysis of the choreographic and musical components of the composition titled “Halyts’ka Syuyita: L’vivs’ki Kvitnykarky” associated with “Authentic Life”. The creative tandem of the leaders of the modern ballet “Aquerias” and the band “Braty Blyuzu” namely the choreographer Oksana Lan and the composer Myroslav Levytskyi gave birth to the development of the jazz-folk musical and choreographic genre in Ukraine. It is our conviction that the study of the choreography of the 1990s requires a more thorough and methodical approach. For the realization of the large-scale artistic action “Ukrayina. Vesna. Slavutych” in 1995, the best representatives of various formations of the 1990s were invited.","source":"Semantic Scholar","year":2025,"language":"en","subjects":null,"doi":"10.30970/vas.27.2025.324-334","url":"https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/482e16196bececd3aba47faccf74ff639b153c51","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":69},{"id":"ss_b9f8ffef99618bfcdf37ed2db44beb09bc0bd969","title":"Digital Economy and Baumol’s Cost Disease of Performing Arts: An Empirical Research in China","authors":[{"name":"Ming Ma"},{"name":"Yangfei Liu"}],"abstract":"Abstract In the past decade, the Chinese government’s financial subsidies for performing arts troupes accounted for an average of 50.57% of their total income. By the end of 2021, China has 18,370 performing arts troupes and 3,093 performing arts venues. The research conclusions of this paper include the following four points: (1) Digital live-streaming theater(DLT) is an “innovation” for traditional Stage Theater(ST) performance, and its changes in creation mechanism, audience-actors relationship, technical esthetics and business model are worthy of further study. (2) Data from 2011 to 2021 show that Baumol’s cost disease also exists in Chinese performing arts. (3) The Chinese government has been reducing its direct management and control of arts troupes, trying to move toward “arm’s length” governance. (4) During the COVID-19 epidemic, performance case data from China show that DLT can indeed reduce the marginal cost, attract more young audiences, and increase performance revenue. However, considering the high technical cost input, whether digital technology can alleviate the cost disease of performing arts still needs more annual industry data analysis.","source":"Semantic Scholar","year":2024,"language":"en","subjects":null,"doi":"10.1080/10632921.2024.2310862","url":"https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/b9f8ffef99618bfcdf37ed2db44beb09bc0bd969","is_open_access":true,"citations":4,"published_at":"","score":68.12},{"id":"ss_6afc7ad16b9c7391b9e3f5484678e97d3d9682e0","title":"Strengthening the Creative Economy of Small and Medium Industries in Supporting the Tourism Potential in Surakarta","authors":[{"name":"D. This research monograph by a scholar of Chinese theaters focuses on characterizing transnational artist networks in East Asia. Investigating theater collaborations of artists from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, Ferrari proposes a transnational and rhizomatic model for analyzing Sinophone culture. The book makes use of multiple sources not referenced in previous research, unpublished materials, and interviews. Awareness of the brand, loyalty to the brand, attitude towards the services and products of a business and other factors that affect the sales of more products are all possible with targeted advertising in media. Television interactions and performing arts show the power relationship to the issue of the new format of stage offerings into a screen with anew aesthetic. The studies in the community very clearly show the problem of media and technology intervention in traditional culture of Indonesia itself and in the ways of its promotion and monetization. The issue of hybridity is common in puppet shows (which will be a case for this research) in the community, although in fact the quality of the show becomes worth researching further. Qualitative approach promises a new perspective for the existence of traditional art in the digital media age. The case of media sharing uploads becomes the primary source of data, in addition to the forms of live performances in the community. Streaming technology is a testament to the level of stage art’s path to new digital culture communication. The results of the hypotheses testing based on the effect of digital marketing on the two variables of consumer participation and consumer value regarding the traditional Indonesian art of puppet shows did not have an acceptable significant effect (p \u003c 0.05), but in relation to the role of digital marketing on consumer confidence, this amount is regarded as acceptable. Conclusion. Power relations produce creative products in the context of television culture, and become a reference for wayang hybridity in society. Thousands of people all over the world have participated in such reenactments, and their number increased significantly during the period surrounding the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War. Through a comparison with representations of war in historical writing, in museums and in the performing arts, I examine the claim of reenactors that they can enter into historical experience. I criticise this claim, and show how distant it is from those who do not claim to relive history but (more modestly) to represent it. In their search for ‘living history’, reenactors make two major errors. They strip war of its political content, and they sanitise and trivialise combat.","source":"Semantic Scholar","year":2020,"language":"en","subjects":["History"],"doi":"10.1017/s0080440120000067","url":"https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/3912c162bdf2fd23631e945018ebf3ab2fe91103","is_open_access":true,"citations":1,"published_at":"","score":64.03},{"id":"ss_5b80c4720527d54dd83ce888b6d30dec1987e5c1","title":"Awareness Raising of Marine Biodiversity and Plant Genetic Diversity Through Drama Process","authors":[{"name":"Pimonpan Lertlum"}],"abstract":"According to the economic prosperity in the Eastern region, the environmental problems have been formed. The destruction of environment; waste water from industrial sectors, release of oil and spoilage from fisheries, space invasive for tourism business has been done by local people and tourists. Social awareness, the ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others is essential for being a part of the community and environment. Performing arts is one of the communicating tools to transmit emotion, thinking through the process of arts and reflect certain fact or information through the production of data searching with site survey for creating and developing the drama show’s script. The purposes of the study were to process the performance for publicizing the contents of the conservation of marine biodiversity and plant genetic diversityand to create learning behavior and awareness of youth people in the conservation of marine biodiversity and plant genetic diversity. Participants in this study were 1628 elementary students, teachers and school administrators of 20 elementary schools in Eastern region. The contents of the ecosystem of the mangrove forest which were suitable for the elementary school students were selected to create a script’s outline. The performing script was divided into 5 partsand presented in the form of comedy. Pre-test and post-test about the marine and ecosystem’s knowledge for students were done. The paired t-test was used to determine if there was significantly different. In addition, 5-point Likert scale questionnaires based on the satisfaction and suggestion for teachers and school administrators were done. The descriptive mean of satisfaction was reported.
