To that end, adoption of low-carbon technologies like electric vehicles (EVs) is critical. This study is a novel examination of the socio-psychological mechanisms shaping intentions to adopt EVs in Assam, a fast-developing region in northeast India, characterized by collectivist cultural norms. While existing research has primarily focused on economic, technical, and volitional factors such as perceived behavioral control, environmental awareness and attitudinal variables, this study examines the combined effect of norm and fear-based drivers of intention to adopt EVs. Utilizing the Norm Activation Model (NAM) and the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), this study identifies subjective norms and perceived vulnerability as the most significant norm-based and fear-based predictor of intention respectively. Structural equation modeling reveals a parallel rather than sequential operation of norm and fear-based constructs, with mediated intention pathways featuring a complex interplay of affect-cognition mechanisms shaping intention. Unlike findings in Western contexts, personal moral norms have less direct impact in shaping intention in a collectivist setting where social validation and group norms weigh higher. Awareness and environmental concern is also found to be ineffective unless it is accompanied with fear cues indicating personal vulnerability and a belief in the possibility of its mitigation. The findings highlight the need for localized, tailored, affect-filled communication strategies over nation-wide financial incentives alone to accelerate EV adoption. The limitations and directions for further research on evolving EV ecosystems are discussed.","source":"DOAJ","year":2025,"language":"","subjects":["Production management. These hazards threaten the safety of deep mining operations and surface stability. To address these challenges, this study integrates field investigations, laboratory rock mechanics experiments, and FLAC3D numerical simulations to analyze the stability evolution of goafs before and after filling. Key innovations include the application of disaster chain theory to interpret goaf failure mechanisms and the optimization of cement-sand ratios for targeted filling (1:20 for 260–610 m levels and 1:8 for 528–540 m levels). Results demonstrate that cemented filling reduces vertical displacement by 2–4 cm, alleviates stress concentration (maximum compressive stress decreased by 0.5–1.0 MPa), and minimizes plastic zone expansion. Furthermore, the proposed interval mining sequence (first mining 300–390 m, followed by 260–290 m and 420–500 m levels) ensures both production efficiency and operational safety. This research provides a systematic framework for goaf management in complex mining environments.","source":"DOAJ","year":2025,"language":"","subjects":["Medicine","Science"],"doi":"10.1038/s41598-025-24224-z","url":"https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-025-24224-z","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":69},{"id":"doaj_10.1016/j.clscn.2023.100137","title":"An integrated vehicle routing model to optimize agricultural products distribution in retail chains","authors":[{"name":"W. The fundamental objective of the VRP is to determine the optimal route plan that minimizes the overall distance traveled. This study employs VRP to address the challenge of distributing fresh agricultural products within retail chains. It introduces an integrated bi-objective VRP model that concurrently optimizes resource allocation, order scheduling, and route planning. The proposed model incorporates two objective functions with the goals of minimizing total distribution costs and ensuring timely product deliveries to retail outlets. Real-world characteristics are integrated to enhance practical applicability. All solution algorithms and the developed VRP model undergo testing using data from one of Sri Lanka's largest retail chains. Numerical experiments showcase the efficiency of the proposed algorithm in solving real-world VRP problems. Moreover, the proposed VRP model achieves a 19% reduction in daily distribution costs, including a 24% saving in fuel costs. This not only provides financial benefits but also contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint of retail chains. The model ensures on-time deliveries to 95% of retail outlets, which is crucial for maintaining the quality of fresh food. The findings of this study underscore the significant cost savings, enhanced sustainability, and improved quality associated with the efficient distribution of fresh agricultural products within retail chains.","source":"DOAJ","year":2024,"language":"","subjects":["Systems engineering","Marketing. Most schools and faculties were forced to switch from traditional to online teaching. Purpose: This research aims to examine the key factors influencing students' intention to use e-learning, as well as predictors of student satisfaction with online teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic. Study design/methodology/approach: The analysis includes 312 students on the territory of the Republic of Serbia who use e-learning. Reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equations modeling are applied in the paper. Findings/conclusions: It is found that course design significantly affects perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and quality of e-learning, and perceived usefulness and quality of e-learning are the main drivers of student satisfaction. Then, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and satisfaction with online teaching are important predictors of the attitude towards the use of e-learning, and attitude is an important driver of the intention to use e-learning. The results of the research and the implications derived from them can be helpful to educational institutions in creating, introducing and implementing e-learning, as well as increasing student satisfaction with online teaching during the pandemic. Limitations/future research: The limitation of the research stems from the selection of the sample (students). In addition, the research was conducted on the territory of Serbia, so the results cannot be generalized. Third, the possible bias of the respondents in giving answers can lead to wrong conclusions. The recommendation for future research is to examine the attitudes of professors who use e-learning, in addition to students. Another recommendation is to do a segment analysis (by gender, year of study) in order to develop specific strategies for each segment. Another suggestion is to compare students' opinions on e-learning and traditional ways of learning.","source":"DOAJ","year":2022,"language":"","subjects":["Production management. Statistical tools, including SPC tools and quality tools, both basic and new, were used to analyse nonconformities in the spatial-temporal system, i.e. according to the type of nonconformity and according to the examined months. The purpose of using the data analysis tools was to thoroughly analyse the cases of nonconformities of the tested product, obtain information on the structure of these nonconformities in the various terms, and information on the stability and predictability of the numerical structure of nonconformity over time. Potential causes influencing a large percentage of paving stone defects were identified, factors and variables influencing the most frequently occurring nonconformities were determined, and improvement actions were proposed. As a result of the multidimensional and multifaceted analyses of paving stone nonconformities, it was shown that in the structure of nonconformity there were cases that were unusual in terms of the number of occurrences, and the lack of stability in the number of nonconformities in terms of the examined months was proven. Three critical nonconformities of the tested product were identified: side surface defects, vertical edge defects, and scratches and cracks. It was determined that the most important factor causing a large percentage of nonconformity was the time of shaking and vibrating the concrete, which was significantly related to the technical condition of the machines, and the most important reason for a large percentage of paving stone nonconformity was the lack of efficient maintenance. Machine, method, and man turned out to be the most important categories of problem factors and specific remedial actions were proposed. A multidimensional look at the structure of paving stone nonconformity as well as the factor and causes causing them has brought a lot of valuable information for the management staff of the analysed company, thanks to which it is possible to improve the production process and improve the quality of the final product.","source":"DOAJ","year":2022,"language":"","subjects":["Production management. Akay"},{"name":"Hasan Serin"},{"name":"John Sessions"},{"name":"Ebru Bilici"},{"name":"Mehmet Pak"}],"abstract":"Forest roads are the key infrastructures that provide access to forest areas for sustainable management, protection, and utilization of forest resources. In order to benefit from the important functions of forest roads, they should be built in with adequate technical road standards. The road network with low technical standards require more frequent major repairs to ensure continues access to forest resources. In addition, only small trucks with low load capacity can move on the low standard roads. Furthermore, the low road standards limit the truck speed that increases vehicle travel time. These negative effects increase the transportation costs which are an important part of the timber production costs in Turkey. Thus, improving the road standards and developing forest transportation planning should be evaluated together in the most appropriate way. Large logging trucks with high load capacity are generally preferred for efficient transportation of wood-based forest products. In Turkey, large logging trucks, however, cannot operate on the most of the forest roads because insufficient technical road standards (road width, curve radius, surface materials, road structures) limit the maneuverability of large logging trucks. In this study, the objective is to determine the effects of improving forest road standards on total net profit of forest products by using the NETWORK 2000 program, a heuristic approach for solving forest transportation problems. Three Forest Enterprise Chiefs (FECs) located in Mustafakemalpaşa Forest Enterprise Directorate (FED) in Bursa Forest Regional Directorate were selected as the study area. The digital data layers for forest road network was generated by using ArcGIS 10.4 software. In the solution process, firstly, the optimum routes that minimize the transportation cost and maximize the total net profit of forest products on existing forest road networks were investigated for a truck type (15 ton) currently used in the region. In the second case, forest transportation was planned for the high load capacity truck (29 ton) moving on the forest roads with improved standards. In the first case, the transportation costs and annual major repair costs were considered in the calculation of the net profit of forest products, while one time cost of road improvement activities (i.e. road improvement construction, road structure installation, road surface construction) and annual maintenance costs were considered along with transportation costs in the second case. In both cases, the costs of other forest operations (i.e. felling, logging, etc.) were not considered since it was assumed that they do not vary with the forest transportation alternatives. As a result of the transportation plan developed for high load capacity truck, the annual transportation cost decreased by 46.85% comparing to the local logging trucks with low load capacity. Using improved road standards, the total road costs computed for the time period of 30 years (i.e. the average expected life cycle of forest roads) were reduced by 4.64%. The total net profit of forest products transported by using a high load capacity truck was 473 340 Euro more than that of using low load capacity truck on the existing forest road network. Thus, improving road standards might result in some additional costs in the road construction stage, but total net profit of forest products increase since transportation costs along with maintenance and repair costs considerably decrease in the long term.","source":"DOAJ","year":2021,"language":"","subjects":["Forestry"],"doi":"10.5552/crojfe.2021.851","url":"https://hrcak.srce.hr/file/370960","pdf_url":"https://hrcak.srce.hr/file/370960","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":65},{"id":"doaj_10.52131/jom.2021.0302.0035","title":"Exploring the Employee’s Commitment through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) Approach: Evidences from Private Sector Organizations of Pakistan","authors":[{"name":"Kamran Hameed"},{"name":"Naveed Yazdani"},{"name":"Zamin Abbas"},{"name":"Noman Arshed"}],"abstract":"The purpose of this study is two-folded: first, to explore the organizational commitment specifically focusing on where is employees’ commitment; towards the organization or towards their jobs? Moreover, increasing the variety of products, covering the uncertain demand of customers, managing inventories and timely action have been important issues in manufacturing companies. Accordingly, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of diversification strategy on inventory performance, which is one of the topics of operations management by considering the classification of the diversity into related, unrelated and international. The statistical population studied includes all companies listed in the Tehran Stock Exchange during the years 2009-2018. Sampling has been done by screening method, and the number of companies in the final sample has reached 120 companies. The hypotheses have been tested by the estimated generalized least squares method. The results show that related and international diversification have positive and significant effects on inventory performance. The findings also indicate that unrelated diversification has an adverse effect on inventory performance, but this relationship is not statistically significant. Based on the acquired results, an increase in related and international variety of products, relying on higher safety stock, has led to an increase in sales. In addition, the insignificancy in the effect of unrelated diversification on inventory performance can be attributed to production costs and marketing programs of manufactured products.","source":"DOAJ","year":2021,"language":"","subjects":["Accounting.
