Therefore, this study systematically reviews the studies on residents’ attitudes toward blue tourism. Methodology/Design/Approach – Based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), this study employs a TCM framework to identify, assess, and synthesize relevant literature, theories, contexts, and methods the researchers adopt.Findings – The findings revealed blue tourism’s increasing attention and significance, highlighting its growing importance in the global tourism discourse. The systematic review of 81 articles suggests that social exchange theory was the most popular and widely usedto measure residents’ attitudes. Further, findings show that 50% were conducted on islands, followed by coastal tourism (25%). Other contexts were cruise tourism (17.5), marine tourism (2.5%), boat tourism (1.25%), and seaside destination (1.25%). Quantitative research designs account for more than two-thirds of the total (80%), with qualitative papers accounting for 15% and mixed method papers for the remainder (5%).Originality of the research – This review article identifies gaps in the current literature and recommends future research directions to enhance our understanding of resident attitudes and support for blue tourism, ultimately developing a resilient and sustainable knowledge landscape.","source":"DOAJ","year":2025,"language":"","subjects":["Hospitality industry. It specifically examines how these factors affect guests’ engagement and decision-making processes. Using the Partial Least Square with Hierarchical Component Model Analysis, the results highlight the importance of immersive and high-quality VR content in enhancing guest experiences and influencing their future behaviours, such as revisiting or recommending the hotels. Additionally, the study underscores the role of system quality in ensuring a seamless and engaging VR experience. The findings through the use of the mediating effect, suggest that investment in superior VR technology can be a strategic tool for hotels to differentiate themselves in a competitive market and align with evolving consumer preferences as well as the cognitive absorption of the hotel guests.","source":"DOAJ","year":2024,"language":"","subjects":["Hospitality industry. With the increase in the number of visitors, rapid construction, concreting and various forms of pollution have had a negative impact on the destination of Uzungöl and its environment. The aim of this study is to reveal the evidence for the existence of overtourism in Uzungöl through visitors’ reviews on online platforms and to determine in which areas overtourism is effective. In this study, which was conducted using an exploratory approach, it was observed that many visitors reviewed on overtourism in Uzungöl using TripAdvisor. These reviews were analysed using content analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that visitors’ reviews focused on three themes related to overtourism in Uzungöl. These are environmental, economic, and socio-cultural themes. As a result of the study, it was determined that environmental concerns are more prominent in terms of overtourism. In addition, it\r\nwas understood that tourists visiting the region have a negative image in terms of overbuilding, concretisation, and unplanned urbanisation.","source":"DOAJ","year":2024,"language":"","subjects":["Recreation. Although the precise scope and long-term effects of COVID-19 \r\nhave not yet been determined, industry analysts predict that some irreversible changes will occur in the future. SMMEs, which represent approximately 80% of licensed tourism and tourism-related businesses worldwide, were \r\nacutely affected by the crises. Tourism SMMEs have been more directly affected, as people who live in vulnerable communities who depend on tourism for their livelihoods have been adversely affected by the collapse of SMMEs. \r\nThis research investigated the recovery possibilities of tourism SMMEs from COVID-19 in the city of Polokwane in Limpopo province. This research adopted a qualitative approach with in-depth semi-structured interviews as a \r\ndata collection tool from 13 owners of tourism SMMEs registered in the Polokwane Local Municipality database, the inclusion condition for these SMMEs was that they should have been in operation for a minimum of five (5) \r\nyears and to have been formally registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission of South Africa (CIPC). The key findings of the study shows that tourism SMME owners believe that their businesses will recover to the state they were before COVID-19, though the recovery would be slow and that SMME owners are of the view that the recovery is subject to rooting out of corruption activities withing government. Traditionally, socio-demographic variables have been instrumental in understanding consumers’ needs and desires. However, during the pandemic, it has been unveiled that social and economic profiles have started to influence how tourists make decisions. Since studies on the changes in hotel choice during and after Covid-19 are still scarce, this article aims to assess the influence of socio-demographic variables on hotel choice based on data collected during the peak phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. A quantitative study was conducted using an online questionnaire that reached an international sample of 1113 individuals. The ANOVA and the t-test analysis results point out that socio-demographic variables under study are responsible for several differences in the evaluation of hotels. In the tourism sector in Indonesia has considerable potential and attractiveness in the natural and cultural tourism sector, in the development of tourism the central government through The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency in each province has the aim of increasing the number of visits and services. This research will examine each tourist attraction, which in its development has developed as an urban area with the availability of supporting tourism facilities / infrastructure that has been fulfilled. The purpose of this study is to identify the level of readiness of tourist attractions in implementing mini dictionary applications in terms of the availability and quality of basic infrastructure services and ICT and tourist support facilities. This research uses the waterfall process method used to describe the research approach to the analysis process. The results of the analysis show that the level of readiness of the application of mini dictionaries at tourist attractions is stated to be against ready. The readiness of the application of the mini dictionary in terms of the availability and quality of basic infrastructure services and ICT and tourist support, based on the results of a review of all components in its application that can be reviewed from infrastructure, facilities and service systems shows that almost all tourist attractions have shown readiness in basic infrastructure and for ICT infrastructure and tourist support facilities are still in a somewhat ready position. The study assessed the perceived influence of transportation services on tourism participation in Ibadan Metropolis, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information from three hundred and thirty respondents who were randomly selected from Ibadan domestic airport, one public and one private motor park, one tricycle and one motorcycle terminal, all along Ife Road through Iwo Road to Ojoo Road, and Dugbe Train Station in Ibadan. The findings revealed that the factors considered most by respondents for choice/use of transportation services were accessibility(x=4.64) ranked first; Duration of the journey (x=4.36) ranked second; and Information about the transportation services and Availability (x=4.35) both tied on third position. It was also found that a bus was the most engaged transport by travelers while the airplane was the most preferred. Availability (r = 0.211) of transportation services had a low probability of influencing tourism participation; Comfort had the likelihood of influencing transportation choice in tourism participation varied. Ride comfort showed positive significance relationship with a high marginal effect on households’ participation (r=0.539) while ambient condition and facility did not have a significant influence and had a low marginal effect (r=0.626) thus, Comfort was found to influence transportation choice towards tourism participation. Customer care had a significant influence on transportation decision of tourists on tourism participation; Safety from crime (r=0.424) and safety from accident (r=0.419) had weak correlation coefficients with participation in tourism. Meanwhile, ticketing did not have a significant coefficient but had a moderate marginal effect of 0.681. The analysis further indicated that the probability of a traveler/tourist participating in tourism increased with increase in the ticketing. Time of the journey showed significant relationship between transportation and motivation to travel. The data was obtained from a survey of residents in Thai Phien Village based on a random sampling method. Factor analysis, descriptive statistics, and comparing means and multiple linear regression were employed to analyze the data. The results reveal that agro-tourism mostly brings positive impacts that outweigh the negative ones on the local community, such as educating visitors about agriculture, enhancing the community pride about local culture, capturing the demands of tourists on the local agricultural products, diversifying local economic activities, encouraging cultural exchange, and also improving public infrastructure and the area appearances. The study also indicated the demographic\r\ncharacteristics of residents are likely to affect their attitudes towards agro-tourism impacts. Using a regression model, the findings yield that the positive impacts of both economic and socio-culture have contributed positively, meanwhile the negative impacts of socio-culture indicate a negative relationship with regard to the participation of local community in agro-tourism development. Thus, the locals’ positive attitudes towards agro-tourism impacts play a vital role, thereby influencing their willingness to active participation in developing agro-tourism of the community. In order to improve the residents’ positive attitudes, the local authorities can develop educational programmes or agro-tourism business model courses to apprise locals of the interests of agro-tourism to individuals as well as the community.\r\nIt can also build up strategies based on local media, via local media, to provide the panorama of agrotourism and its benefits on locals.","source":"DOAJ","year":2018,"language":"","subjects":["Hospitality industry. In South Africa, deregulation has had wide-reaching effects on the domestic market. The purpose of this article\r\nwas to investigate the impacts of deregulation on the airline industry in South Africa. A literature review was performed to examine the effects of deregulation in the domestic air transport market in South Africa. The study showed that deregulation has benefited passengers by including a wider variety of airlines to choose from and more frequencies throughout the day, making connecting flights to hubs more accessible. However, deregulation has also resulted in the entry of a lot of LCCs which has\r\nresulted in overcapacity in the South African domestic market and negatively affected the performance of airlines. Although deregulation broke the monopoly held by the state-owned carrier and reduced its market share, state-funded support for SAA is seen by many to have skewed the market and to have\r\nprovided the airline with a competitive advantage. Partial and selective deregulation, designed to maintain the protection of national carriers, represents a considerable threat to private operators, thereby rendering the aviation business unprofitable, something that stifles the region’s tourism prospects.","source":"DOAJ","year":2017,"language":"","subjects":["Hospitality industry. Its development is important for the countries that are currently developing, especially for poor rural areas. The interest of tourists in precise weather and climate information, as well as extreme weather conditions predictions, are becoming increasingly important. This is due to the fact that a lot of tourist activities depend on weather conditions and climate. The long-term tourism development depends to a great extent on accurate information about climatic features of an area. Favourable climatic conditions are often a key factor for choosing a particular destination. This paper presents the values of climatic elements for the period from 1991 to 2011 and their impact on the development of tourism in the area of the Gruža region. The Gruža is a part of a larger natural geographical region called Šumadija stretching for the most part in the valley of the river of the same name. The task of this paper is to explore the values of climatic elements as important factors in choosing the Gruža area as a tourist destination. Climate has an important role in determining the suitability of an area in terms of the development of tourism. The aim is to show the climatic elements values in the geographic area that represents a potential for tourism development. The statistical analysis consisted of descriptive statistics of the\n\t\t\tdemographic profile of hunters, Cronbach‟s alpha, mean-inter-item-correlations,\n\t\t\tmean/standard deviation and a structural equation model. The results have indicated that\n\t\t\tsocial and travel life domains have a statistically significant effect on life domains overall, as\n\t\t\twell as on the QoL of hunters on a hunting trip as measured by life domains. The main\n\t\t\tcontributions of the research are twofold: Firstly, it makes a contribution to the current\n\t\t\tliterature on hunters and QoL; and secondly, it has identified the intangible aspects of\n\t\t\thunting that may be used by owners of hunting products in marketing a hunting trip.","source":"DOAJ","year":2015,"language":"","subjects":["Hospitality industry. Insights gained into this subject are\n\t\t\tuseful to future destination planners. Despite its importance, the subject of whom to involve\n\t\t\tin the hotel location decision and why they should be involved, has received limited research\n\t\t\tinterest in Ghana. This study identifies the people involved in hotel location decisions and\n\t\t\tassesses the reasons why they are involved. Data was collected from hotel owners in the\n\t\t\tKumasi Metropolis and analysed with the chi-square test of independence. Extended family\n\t\t\tmembers were mostly involved in the hotel location decisions and for mainly personal\n\t\t\treasons. It was concluded that hotel owners in the Kumasi Metropolis involve their family\n\t\t\tmembers in the location choice for non-professional reasons.","source":"DOAJ","year":2012,"language":"","subjects":["Hospitality industry.
