Заключается, что применение данной дорогостоящей техники в исламской архитектуре стало средством подчеркнуть статус Объединенных Арабских Эмиратов в исламском мире, а также подчеркнуть открытость страны для культурного диалога.","source":"DOAJ","year":2026,"language":"","subjects":["Philosophy (General)","History (General)"],"doi":"10.24158/fik.2026.2.28","url":"https://dom-hors.ru/nauchniy-zhurnal-obschestvo-filosofiya-istoriya-kultura/2026/2/28","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":70},{"id":"doaj_10.1016/j.aohep.2025.101950","title":"CHOLANGIOCARCINOMA IN INDIVIDUALS WITH CHRONIC LIVER DISEASE IS DIAGNOSED EARLIER, LEADING TO BETTER PROGNOSIS","authors":[{"name":"Laura Izquierdo Sanchez"},{"name":"Julen Matin Robles"},{"name":"Jone Narbaiza"},{"name":"Angela Lamarca"},{"name":"Adelaida La Casta"},{"name":"Heinz-Josef Klümpen"},{"name":"Arun Valsan"},{"name":"Stephanie Roessler"},{"name":"Chiara Braconi"},{"name":"Leonardo G. da Fonseca"},{"name":"Cristina Dopazo"},{"name":"Trine Folseraas"},{"name":"Bas Groot Koerkamp"},{"name":"Domingo Balderramo"},{"name":"Mariano Ponz Sarvise"},{"name":"Javier Díaz Ferrer"},{"name":"Krzysztof Zieniewicz"},{"name":"Zeno Sparchez"},{"name":"Kirsten Utpatel"},{"name":"Markus Peck Radosavljevic"},{"name":"Alejandro Forner"},{"name":"Luis Bujanda"},{"name":"Jesus M. This study aimed to compare the clinical presentation and outcomes of CCA in patients with and without CLD, using data from the International CCA Registry. Patients and Methods: The international CCA Registry is a multicenter observational study enrolling cases from 54 centers across Latin America, Europe, and Asia (2010–2024). Results: Among 3,693 patients enrolled, 916 had CLD and 2,777 did not. Common CLD conditions were fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Compared to non-CLD patients, those with CLD were more often male (69% vs. 53%), younger at diagnosis (63 vs. 66 years), and had higher rates of metabolic risk factors, alcohol use, and smoking. Intrahepatic CCA was more frequent in CLD patients (64% vs. 43%), whereas distal CCA was more common in non-CLD cases (20% vs. 9%). CLD patients had better performance status (ECOG 0: 53% vs. 35%), lower CA19-9 levels (59.0 vs. 134.5 U/mL), and more localized disease (56% vs. 48%). Curative-intent surgery was more frequent in the CLD group (59% vs. 48%), translating into longer median overall survival (12.3 vs. 11.0 months) and higher 5-year survival (OR = 1.67; p \u003c 0.001). The benefit was especially evident in intrahepatic CCA. Treatment responses were comparable between groups. Conclusions: CCA is diagnosed at earlier stages in individuals with CLD, likely due to certain clinical surveillance, leading to better prognosis. Prospective validation and standardized surveillance protocols are warrant.","source":"DOAJ","year":2025,"language":"","subjects":["Specialties of internal medicine"],"doi":"10.1016/j.aohep.2025.101950","url":"http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1665268125001759","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":69},{"id":"doaj_10.1186/s12889-025-23626-y","title":"Interplay of physical activity, self-rated health, and life satisfaction among large-bodied adolescents in Europe and North America: analysis using clustered binary mixed effects logit modelling","authors":[{"name":"Michael Safo Oduro"},{"name":"Eniola Fasola"},{"name":"Prince Peprah"},{"name":"Isaac Yeboah Addo"}],"abstract":"Abstract Background There is a dearth of studies focused on the impact of self-rated health on life satisfaction among large-bodied adolescents, as well as the moderating role of physical activity in this relationship. Large-bodied adolescents refers to young people (usually aged 10–19 years) whose body size falls within the overweight or obese range as defined by the World Health Organisation’s Growth Reference, based on age- and sex-specific body mass index (BMI) percentiles. This study aimed to address the gap in research by examining the association between self-rated health and life satisfaction in a diverse sample of large-bodied adolescents from 39 countries and regions in Europe and North America. The moderating role of physical activity in the association was also examined. Methods The study analysed data from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey, involving a sample of 24,839 large-bodied adolescents. Three sequential binary mixed effects logit models were fitted: the first assessing self-rated health alone, the second adjusting for multiple covariates, and the third incorporating an interaction term between physical activity and self-rated health. The analysis was performed using R Software (v4.1.2), with significance determined at a level of 0.05. Results The results show that adolescents who rated their health as “poor” were a little more than six times (AOR = 6.32, 95%CI: 5.30–7.54, p \u003c 0.001) as likely to report lower life satisfaction compared to those who rated their health as “excellent”. Those who rated their health as “good” had 1.71 times higher odds (AOR = 1.71, 95%CI: 1.44–2.04, p \u003c 0.001) of reporting lower life satisfaction compared to those who rated their health as “excellent”. The analysis further indicated that physical activity plays a partial moderating role in the relationship between self-rated health and life satisfaction. Participants who considered themselves “somewhat active” reported higher life satisfaction compared to their “inactive” peers (AOR = 0.58, p = 0.031, 95% CI: 0.36–0.95). Conclusions The study supports the hypothesis that poorer self-rated health is associated with lower life satisfaction among large-bodied adolescents. It further suggests that increased physical activity can ‘partly’ buffer the negative effects of poor self-rated health on life satisfaction. These findings emphasise the importance of interventions promoting physical activity and positive self-care to improve general well-being in large-bodied adolescents.","source":"DOAJ","year":2025,"language":"","subjects":["Public aspects of medicine"],"doi":"10.1186/s12889-025-23626-y","url":"https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-025-23626-y","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":69},{"id":"arxiv_2508.14907","title":"Improving Chip Design Enablement for Universities in Europe -- A Position Paper","authors":[{"name":"Lukas Krupp"},{"name":"Ian O'Connor"},{"name":"Luca Benini"},{"name":"Christoph Studer"},{"name":"Joachim Rodrigues"},{"name":"Norbert Wehn"}],"abstract":"The semiconductor industry is pivotal to Europe's economy, especially within the industrial and automotive sectors. This study examines the regional trends in the citation of preprints, specifically focusing on the impact of two major disruptive events: the COVID-19 pandemic and the release of ChatGPT, on research dissemination patterns in the United States, Europe, and South Korea from 2015 to 2024. Using bibliometrics data from the Web of Science, this study tracks how global disruptive events influenced the adoption of preprints in AI policy research and how such shifts vary by region. By marking the timing of these disruptive events, the analysis reveals that while all regions experienced growth in preprint citations, the magnitude and trajectory of change varied significantly. The United States exhibited sharp, event-driven increases; Europe demonstrated institutional growth; and South Korea maintained consistent, linear growth in preprint adoption. These findings suggest that global disruptions may have accelerated preprint adoption, but the extent and trajectory are shaped by local research cultures, policy environments, and levels of open science maturity. This paper emphasizes the need for future AI governance strategies to consider regional variability in research dissemination and highlights opportunities for further longitudinal and comparative research to deepen our understanding of open-access adoption in AI policy development.","source":"arXiv","year":2025,"language":"en","subjects":["cs.DL","cs.AI","cs.CY"],"url":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2505.03835","pdf_url":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2505.03835","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"2025-05-04T19:44:41Z","score":69},{"id":"arxiv_2502.15552","title":"Starlink in Northern Europe: A New Look at Stationary and In-motion Performance","authors":[{"name":"Muhammad Asad Ullah"},{"name":"Antti Heikkinen"},{"name":"Mikko Uitto"},{"name":"Marko Höyhtyä"},{"name":"Antti Anttonen"},{"name":"Konstantin Mikhaylov"},{"name":"Timo Lind"}],"abstract":"Starlink has introduced the Flat High Performance (FHP) terminal, specifically designed to support the vehicles and the vessels in motion as well as the high-demand stationary users. However, this is a very relevant topic, especially if users have had no direct contact with Europe and its perception depends solely on information retrieved online. In this work we analyse the information circulating online about Europe and migration after retrieving a large amount of data from social media (Twitter), to gain new insights into topics, magnitude, and dynamics of their diffusion. We combine retweets and hashtags network analysis with geolocation of users, linking thus data to geography and allowing analysis from an \"outside Europe\" perspective, with a special focus on Africa. We also introduce a novel approach based on cross-lingual quotes, i.e. when content in a language is commented and retweeted in another language, assuming these interactions are a proxy for connections between very distant communities. Results show how the majority of online discussions occurs at a national level, especially when discussing migration. Language (English) is pivotal for information to become transnational and reach far. Transnational information flow is strongly unbalanced, with content mainly produced in Europe and amplified outside. Conversely Europe-based accounts tend to be self-referential when they discuss migration-related topics. Football is the most exported topic from Europe worldwide. As Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine physicians are experts in functional prognosis for patients with these health conditions, their expertise could be of value to consider in these decisions. Legal frameworks and attitudes towards end-of-life decisions differ between European countries. However, there is a lack of information on the involvement of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine physicians in these decisions. Therefore, delegates of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine physicians in European countries were surveyed on the legal status of end-of-life decisions and the involvement of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine physicians. The responses of delegates from 28 countries suggested differences in involvement of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine physicians in end-of-life decisions between European countries, even between countries with a legal status of these end-of-life decisions. In the light of the ageing population and a general tendency toward more liberal attitudes concerning end-of-life decisions in Europe, these findings could be of interest in order to optimize end-of-life care in the coming years.\n","source":"DOAJ","year":2023,"language":"","subjects":["Therapeutics. Based on an expert survey, we examine key aspects that are likely to influence COVID-19 in Europe. The future challenges and developments will strongly depend on the progress of national and global vaccination programs, the emergence and spread of variants of concern, and public responses to nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). In the short term, many people are still unvaccinated, VOCs continue to emerge and spread, and mobility and population mixing is expected to increase over the summer. Therefore, policies that lift restrictions too much and too early risk another damaging wave. This challenge remains despite the reduced opportunities for transmission due to vaccination progress and reduced indoor mixing in the summer. In autumn 2021, increased indoor activity might accelerate the spread again, but a necessary reintroduction of NPIs might be too slow. The incidence may strongly rise again, possibly filling intensive care units, if vaccination levels are not high enough. A moderate, adaptive level of NPIs will thus remain necessary. A compact torus (CT) is formed with a co-axial gun into a containment region with an hour-glass shaped inner flux conserver, and an insulating outer wall. External coil currents keep the CT off the outer wall (radial levitation) and then rapidly compress it inwards. The optimal external coil configuration greatly improved both the levitated CT lifetime and the rate of shots with good flux conservation during compression. As confirmed by spectrometer data, the improved levitation field profile reduced plasma impurity levels by suppressing the interaction between plasma and the insulating outer wall during the formation process. Significant increases in magnetic field, density, and ion temperature were routinely observed at magnetic compression despite the prevalence of an instability, thought be an external kink, at compression. Matching the decay rate of the levitation coil currents to that of the internal CT currents resulted in a reduced level of MHD activity associated with unintentional compression by the levitation field, and a higher probability of long-lived CTs. An axisymmetric finite element MHD code that conserves system energy, particle count, angular momentum, and toroidal flux, was developed to study CT formation into a levitation field and magnetic compression. One of the primary benefits they bring is increased effectiveness of fruit setting as well as improved stress tolerance, essential for warm-climate crops cultivated in the nonoptimal environmental conditions of Northern and Central Europe. The aim of this study was a preliminary investigation of any genotype-dependent reaction of eggplant cultivars (Solanum melongena) to application of a standardized extract of the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum (Göemar BM-86) under field conditions in Poland. The only statistically relevant result of this biostimulant was shown for cultivar ‘Flavine’ F1, where it positively affected the early crop yield and the number of fruits per plant. Fruit quality attributes, including antioxidant activity, as well as selected mineral contents, increased as an effect of biostimulant spraying. This reaction was specific for the cultivars investigated, and it was confirmed by significant differences in the main effects between biostimulant and control treatments for almost all the properties measured. The use of this A. nodosum extract suggested that there could be an improvement in fruit yield and quality in selected eggplant cultivars under field conditions in the temperate climatic zone.","source":"DOAJ","year":2018,"language":"","subjects":["Agriculture (General)"],"doi":"10.5586/aa.1752","url":"https://pbsociety.org.pl/journals/index.php/aa/article/view/8351","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":62},{"id":"doaj_10.2478/subbs-2018-0013","title":"Translating John V. Murra’s ‘The Economic Organization of the Inca State’ into Romanian as ‘Obra DE Amor’","authors":[{"name":"Anăstăsoaie Marian Viorel"}],"abstract":"This paper addresses one of the first translations of a US anthropological monograph into Romanian. Its author, John V. Murra (1916–2006), born into a Russian-Jewish family in Odessa, grew up in Romania, where he studied and became involved in the Communist movement before his departure for Chicago in 1934. His 1956 PhD thesis in anthropology at University of Chicago on the Inka state was a first step towards turning Murra into an influential figure in the field of Andean anthropology. His sister Ata Iosifescu lived in Romania and translated his PhD thesis into Romanian, published in 1987 as Civilizaţie inca: organizarea economică a statului incaş(Inka Civilization: the Economic Organization of the Inka State). Based on their correspondence kept at the National Anthropological Archives at the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC), I propose to reconstruct this translation’s story: the context, the constraints and the process of translation itself. I am also addressing the question of the book’s reception in Romania.","source":"DOAJ","year":2018,"language":"","subjects":["Anthropology","Sociology (General)"],"doi":"10.2478/subbs-2018-0013","url":"https://doi.org/10.2478/subbs-2018-0013","is_open_access":true,"published_at":"","score":62},{"id":"doaj_10.5206/ls.2018.3792","title":"Review of The Well-Ordered Universe: The Philosophy of Margaret Cavendish by Deborah Boyle","authors":[{"name":"David Cunning"}],"abstract":"\nA review of Deborah Boyle's recent book The Well-Ordered Universe: The Philosophy of Margaret Cavendish (Oxford, UK: Oxford University Press, 2017).\n","source":"DOAJ","year":2018,"language":"","subjects":["Religions.
