Graphic Notation Activities in Early Childhood Music Teaching
Abstrak
This study explores the use of graphic notation in early childhood music education and its impact on children’s learning and development. Using semi-structured interviews with four preschool music teachers and classroom observations, the research identifies key benefits of graphic notation in both song teaching and music appreciation contexts. Graphic notation concretizes abstract musical concepts, supports creativity and self-expression, accommodates diverse learning needs, enhances engagement through multisensory experiences, and promotes holistic development across cognitive, social, and emotional domains. The findings highlight that graphic notation functions as a developmentally appropriate pedagogical tool, enabling young children to actively construct musical understanding rather than passively receive instruction. These insights provide practical implications for music educators, curriculum designers, and early childhood practitioners seeking to foster inclusive, engaging, and creative music learning experiences.
