Marine's Silent Lens

Abstrak

Author Bio Daniel Schrubb joined the U.S. Army in 1984 and served 4 years as a rifleman, with deployments to Sinai, Egypt and the Demilitarized Zone of South Korea.  Upon his Honorable discharge, he transferred to the Army Reserve for another 4 years, working as a light construction engineer near Dallas.  He subsequently joined the Marine Corps where he trained as a combat photographer, specializing in motion media, or videography.  His duty stations include Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, MCAS Miramar, CA; then to Syracuse, New York in 2000, where he was accepted into the Military Motion Media Studies Program at the Newhouse School, Syracuse University.  Next, he deployed to Iraq, in early 2003, with the 1st Marine Division under the command of then MajGen. James Mattis and Col. John Kelly.   Upon returning, he was ordered to recruiting duty at Recruiting Station Albuquerque, Sub-Station Amarillo Texas; then to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and finally, to Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA.  In 2012-2013, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan to serve as a Force Protection Fielding Officer. He retired in late 2014 with 28 years of dedicated military service.    While preparing for retirement, he attended the Transition Assistance Program classes where he heard about Entrepreneurship.  He had a strong desire to pursue that track which led him to qualify for the Boots to Business online course through the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Boots to Business introduced him to the fundamentals of business ownership and allowed him to take a look at the necessary steps involved in planning for opening a business.   Dan, and his wife Priscilla, knew they wanted to live in the Texas Hill Country and settled north of San Antonio. MSgt Daniel “Top Pop” Schrubb, USMC, served his last day on active duty on December 31, 2014.  They opened their first Popcorn Friday location in February 2015 and in the summer 2017, they opened an online store -www.PopcornFriday.com. In May of 2023, they sold majority ownership of Popcorn Friday.   Daniel is now pursuing a degree at Texas State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Digital Media Innovation. He is an active volunteer in Bulverde, the city in which he lives. He served for over two years on the Zoning Board of Adjustments and three years as a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  Daniel and Priscilla have two adult children, a daughter living in Utah with her husband, and a son serving in the Army. They also have one daughter still living at home who is a sophomore in high school.
