Abstrak

Here we intend to focus on the court and its engendering of archival practices, between storing and revealing; practices that fix the sense of an event, interaction, institution or activity, clarifying them in writing designed to be preserved, offered for immediate or deferred viewing. The objective is to shed light on the role of such practices in court life, to gauge how they contribute to our knowledge of courtly phenomenon, and through them, to better understand the role of government at court. This introduction aims to situate the issues involved in approaching the court from the archiving processes to which it gave rise or which were undertaken in its name.
