El lector toma la pluma: la carta como soporte de la comunicación letrada en el Diario de México
Esther Martínez Luna
Abstrak
This article is intended to explain how readers of the first daily of New Spain, the Diario de Mexico (1805-1812), took the pen to speak on many issues of interest to Novohispana society members and established a bridge of dialogue through the letters sent to the newspaper. Accordingly, the letter became a genre of discourse whose features support served as communication between individuals characterized by their low positions in the public service of a declining political regime. Because of the open and flexible nature of these texts, readers-authors created a new form of communication according to a public sphere constituted outside the social structure of the Old Regime.
