Case Study on the Development and Operation of the Online Liberal Arts Class ‘Humanities and Emotional Intelligence’

Abstrak

The purpose of this study is to analyze the development and cases of the ‘Humanities Arts and Emotional Intelligence’ class, which is a liberal arts course opened as an online class, and to suggest future improvement plans. The results were analyzed by conducting a survey of 115 students who took the ‘Humanities Arts and Emotional Intelligence’ course in the first semester of 2024. As a result of the study, it was found that the application of the discussion and teaching method to the assignments of the class was appropriate to cultivate the self-management skills of the learners. The conclusions based on these results are as follows. First, by reinforcing the research on the results of the satisfaction survey, it is necessary to conduct a satisfaction survey of learners before the 15th week of class, during the middle week of class, and after the 15th week of class to reflect the learner's needs in the class content in real time. Second, it is necessary to reinforce the interaction between instructors and learners in an online classroom environment, and to develop and apply a method that enables efficient discussion. Third, although it is an online method, it is necessary to develop a class that can efficiently achieve the goals of the humanities and arts liberal arts curriculum by increasing a vivid sense of reality through special lectures invited by experts for an aesthetic experience. Therefore, this study provided an analysis of the effectiveness of online liberal arts classes and developed class management cases, explored class feasibility that reflects learners' needs in university online classes, and presented implications for the development of online interaction classes tailored to learners. It also aims to lay the groundwork for the development of various humanities and arts liberal arts subjects in the future by presenting a new model in university humanities and arts liberal arts education.
