Permanent Slurry Walls at Baltimore Metro's Shot Tower Station

A Patel R Castelli

Abstrak

The general approach and State-of-the Art methods used for the design of the permanent slurry walls for an underground transit station are presented. The design included alternative studies, geotechnical investigations, seepage analysis, structural design, constructability aspects and architectural interface in selecting slurry walls as the station's permanent walls. The station's wall design also required the installation of jet grout walls in lieu of slurry wall panels where existing underground 115 kV electric lines crossed the station. The paper addresses evaluation and analytical methods used in resolving significant issues that confronted the designers in adoption of slurry walls as the station's permanent walls, and presents preliminary findings of the construction instrumentation monitoring program.
