International Social Work and Social Welfare: Australia and Pacific Islands
Abstrak
Australia and Aotearoa-New Zealand are among the world’s most livable countries, despite the increase in relative poverty and the negative effect of past policies on Indigenous peoples. Social work is well established, social-justice oriented, and emerging as a profession in the Pacific Islands, where political instability, a lack of sustainable economic management, rapid urbanization, and unemployment hamper economic and social potential. From the late 2010's, a range of social and economic “shocks,” including the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous natural disasters, and the flow-on effects from international conflicts, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, have affected Australia, Aotearoa-New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
