Aesthetics
Abstrak
Abstract The claim defended in this chapter is that aesthetics is about experiences, so philosophy of perception is the natural place to turn if we want to engage with debates in aesthetics. This approach does not entail that all aesthetic phenomena are perceptual phenomena because philosophy of perception is about much more than just perception. Aesthetics is distinguished from philosophy of art, which has little to do with perception and experiences. This way of thinking about aesthetics can also avoid the complaints of the anti-aesthetics movements according to which aesthetics is either a narrow and somewhat irrelevant concept or so broad that everything would count as aesthetic. If we understand aesthetics in the light of philosophy of perception, we can avoid both of these potential problems.
