Co‐rotational extension of the Logarithmic finite element method

Abstrak

AbstractModeling a plane Timoshenko beam, the approximation space of the standalone Logarithmic finite element (LogFE) method provides good approximations for moderate deformations, but deteriorates for large deformations. A co‐rotational extension of the method significantly improves the quality of the approximation for large deformations. However, due to the inability of the extended method to exactly represent low‐order polynomial deformation, the model does not fully converge with mesh refinement, suggesting the use of additional low‐order deformation functions in the co‐rotational update.
